Since I have this footage I might as well share and you can all critique me. I shot this bull on September 27th…these pictures (screenshots of videos) were on October 14th. I also have video of this bull on November 10th and he is completely healed up by then and no visible mark.

Anyway how did I do on my shot placement? When I shot him his leg was forward and he was almost exactly broad side but ever so slightly quartered away….but basically perfectly broad side.

A little back ground for those of you that don’t know. I switched broadheads last summer and went to a hybrid mechanical. When my arrow hit the bull I could instantly tell I got hardly any penetration. My arrow fell out around 70 yards (or so) from the shot. It looked like I only got around 6 inches of penetration. I backed out and gave him the night. Spent the next day with my wife and brother in law. Long story short we didn’t find him and he didn’t seem hurt

One other side note on this bull but he is going to score right around 350

I think a bit high. Isn't the rule of thumb 1/3 of the way up?

I think a touch high like saddlesore saddle. Also, it may not be just because of your mechanical. What are your other arrow specs? My brother had the same issue with his buzzcut fixed, cut on contact heads the first year out. Hit a rib and stuck like a toothpick instead of blasting through both side. His foc was like 9% and arrow light. Even out of a 70Ib newer bear with 30in draw at 12yds. After that instance, I went buck wild on building my arrows up. Mine are 18% foc, hybrid heads and 452grs finished weight out of a 27in 55Ib hoyt torrex xt. I blew through the offside shoulder of a whitetail at 30yds. It sliced through the top of the scapula and was holding on to the hide. I know it wouldn't ever hold up on an elk scapula or humerus but I am confident of blasting into the ribs.

You can’t see it great from this angle but if you look close you can see the wound from the side….this is more of the stance he was in when I shot but he was drinking water.

Also i should have added to help for reference on the shot placement but the angle was slightly down that I was shooting. I was in a tree stand below the water….im relatively flat with water but I would say the from the tip of my arrow when I was at full draw to the exact point of contact with the bull my arrow had probably dropped six feet.

This information might help

Sometimes critters are tough to put down.
The shot appears a bit back, however with some angle should have been good,
Strange things take place from the time you touch a release.

So maybe this year he will go 365
