Forest Management and Elk

Postby Swede » 04 23, 2025 •  [Post 1]

There is a huge misconception in the environmental community that time harvest is bad for wildlife. Some intensities and some large-scale harvest can be bad for some wildlife species. Ungulates like deer and elk depend on some timber removal. In the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, the deer and elk harvest has fallen way off since the Forest Service has severely limited timber harvest. I for one wish the federal government would go back to the non-declining sustained yield harvest we had years ago. Forest science like medicine has shown how the forest can be better managed that what it was in the 1960s, but ww should not throw the baby out with the wash.
We need some set aside areas as a part of the multiple use management we can all appreciate. God told Adam to tend His garden. He did not say trash the place nor did He say let it deteriorate and burn.
Just my thought.

Timber it, graze it, or let it burn. The envros can't comprehend that

Too much politics in wildlife management and will only get worse.

We need to get rid of 3000 bison and lots of wolves to help the Yellowstone herds
