Do you stink!!!

Postby Lefty » 08 12, 2024 •  [Post 1]

I really believe Primos stole my coined phase idea of a Scent freak.

I go to lots of simple extremes for scent reduction.
Coyote hunting and trapping put me in line with stinking less. Yes, I play the wind,,,

I hunted one year with a crew that said you cant bathe/shower till you kill and elk,,,,,
7 of us in a wall tent with subzero temps,,, and their outerwear hadn't been washed from the previous hunts or years. They stunk as bad as a duck hunter. I killed my bull,,, they never fired a shot.

Last year Andrew and I had elk around us a number of those times sometimes with a good wind. He had elk literally at his feet and face. Where most stinky guys those elk would have been gone.

My camper is cleaned well using non-scented soaps and oxidizer soaps, ozone generator goes in this evening then my truck gets it for a day.
And I generally cook outside.
All my laundry is washed, and my unde clothes will be washed in a nanosilver-based wash.
I ll shower at least once a day. I also cut back on red meat, and reduced the strong garlic and hot pepper.

So what do you do?

Right on Lefty. I agree with what you are saying here. I know we all smell but am still careful about minimizing my odor even when I am tree stand hunting. I do not use cover scent. I bathe daily using scent free soap and I use an unscented deodorant. I wash my hunting clothes in scent free soap. I am careful about my approach to my tree stand.
I have read that we cannot eliminate our scent. That is partly true. We can eliminate most of it and leave a scent that dissipates quickly. As I have said many times here, you can compare stinking bodies and stinking clothes vs clean ones to the difference between a garbage dump and an empty tuna can. Both have an odor, but which are you going to notice first? If you prefer you can compare the difference to one cow pie in the forest to a feedlot outside a cow town. Sure, they both smell, but there is a big difference.

Here is my favorite scent removal recipe. It was originally intended to eliminate skunk odor from dogs that got sprayed. And it does work! I mixed up a double strength batch one time and washed down my little black and white dog. It not only got rid of the skunk odor but it made my black and white doggy brown and white. LOL!

One time I spilled some gasoline on my hands while filling up my ATV before a morning hunt. I sprayed my hands with
the scent removable recipe and WALA! no more smell of gas. I figure if it can get rid of skunk and gas odor, it must surely help to at least tone down human odor. Here is how I mix it up.

One bottle of hydrogen peroxide. 1/2 cup of baking soda. 1 small teaspoon of unscented dish washing soap. Mix it up until all the baking soda is dissolved. Pour it in an open bowl and let it sit over night as there will be a reaction take place. ( If you put it in a capped jug, it will blow the cap off and make a mess that your wife won't be happy with)! :o The next day, you can pour the mixture back in the original brown bottle that the peroxide came in and screw a spray applicator on it.

Another little trick I like is to soak my clothes in a bucket of water with a cup or two of baking soda over night. Next morning, hang it on the line to dry. If you have two sets of clothes, you can alternate them every other day doing this. It won't wash the dirt out but it will get rid of the stink. And who cares about a little dirt anyhow. It's camo, right? And camo is dirty colors anyhow!!!! :D

Thanks for posting that up ww.

I did a final wipe down with hydrogen peroxide last night in my pickup.

I used to make my own body wipes with hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is also a valuable aid for blood trailing. Spray it on any dried up specious looking spot and if it is blood, it will foam up.
