Tree Stand Photos?

Postby Elkduds » 03 09, 2014 •  [Post 1]

An old school tree stand. Given its location on a private ranch that specializes in trophy bulls and bucks, there likely have been dozens of elk taken here. The grass beneath it is knee deep.

Never mind the fact that the tree stand was noisy and uncomfortable, it would be extremely dangerous. If that is your tree stand alternative, be safe and use a ground blind.

There are the remnants of two old stands where we use to bear hunt. 20 feet up in the air with a small l seat and platform spooky

No way I was getting up on something like that! I took it as a sign I was in a good spot. Sat down in a shady spot right by the stand, and in 2 afternoons saw 30 elk and 3 good bucks (pic of one in What Kind of Deer thread, deer hunting forum) in the 5 acres around this old treestand. I return to that spot every time I get the chance to hunt there. Last fall there was a foot of snow there, some sets of tracks, I found elk lower.

RJ: This is a little technical so pay attention. With the seat portion up, facing away from the tree, and the base down cinch the straps tight around the tree. You can practice thins at home so you can get the hang of it. :D

Whoa! Allright Swede, let's not dive into the technical stuff right off the bat. Remember I'm new to this tree stand hunting thing. I'm just trying to figure out how to strap the two boxes to my pack. And what if it rains? Won't the cardboard get wet? Tree, straps, face the seat which way? Let's not get too advanced.. ;)
