Where Did He Go? For Tree Stand Hunters Only.

Postby Swede » 07 07, 2026 •  [Post 1]

Over the years hunting I have noticed many things. Hunting from a tree stand I have observed things that hunters staying on the ground and moving around never see. After being shot from my stand, single elk escape and go the same way time after time. If you can't track them, just go to where the last one expired and continue on past. Many times, the one you just shot will go to the same place or just beyond where the others did. Many times, they die very close where the others died. I have observed places that remind me of the Valley of Dry Bones as described in Ezekiel 37.

Boy that isnt true with MN whitetails. I can only think of 2 bucks I have shot that died in the same location. All others just go randomly, usually at Mach 3. Interesting that elk do that. I wonder if it is a result of topography? Our area is flat.

Great information to know. It makes sense, When they get bumped they run for "cover". If you bump the same elk in the same meadow from the same path multiple times. they are most likely going to take the same escape route each time.

Not sure who here has watched the video on You tube called "firebull". Eric Chesser (the hunter) shoots the same bull from a ground blind twice in one season. it ran off in the exact same path both times. Great video to watch if you haven't seen it and a great example of what Swede is talking about in this thread.

I can't say why it happens or that it is 100% true. I just know it is highly likely to play out that way.
