Tree Stand "Likes" "Systems"

Postby Elkhunttoo » 05 19, 2026 •  [Post 1]

Last year i went and sat in my brother in laws stand. It was the first time that i had sat in a stand that i hadnt set up. We have all most all of the same things...i.e. ladder, life line, bow hanger, pack hanger etc.....Yet, his set up is quite different from mine in where he puts things. This got me to thinking.....What is your system? I try to set up my stands the same way. i try to put my bow in the same spot on every setup. My pack in the same spot....and so on.

If i can i prefer to have my stand on the left side of my ladder. This just feels more comfortable to me. My wife uses all of my setups and i want them the same so that she feels comfortable. She is not a huge fan of heights and to be honest, neither am i. I hang my pack on my ladder. I like my bow on my right side off of my right hip area. I like my life line on my left side when im climbing. and so on

Every tree is going to be different and every stand different but i really like to try and use the same system if possible. Are you guys the same or do you not care and put your stuff in a different stuff in every tree?

I go up my tree on screw in steps. I like to be tied off to the tree from the time I leave the ground. I hang my stand to my right, usually 22-25 feet up the tree, but occasionally it is higher. From my stand the safety line goes around the tree above my head and hangs down on the left side of the tree. I usually hang my pack about head high as I sit in the stand. It is on my right, and my bow is about shoulder high on my left. I prefer to sit in my own stands too. I want most animals to approach without them seeing me if and when I move. I can't manage that in many cases and have to wait until I can stand and prepare for the shot. Standing and moving must be done very carefully not to make a sound or be seen. I won't allow my stand to squeak or otherwise make a sound when I shift my weight. When I go down the tree, I stay connected until I am on the ground where I detach the carabiner and take my bow off the drop line attached to the stand. Nothing is haphazard. Your stand may be perfect for you, but probably I would not like it as much as my own.
