Strange Encounters of the Human Kind

Nope, not lions, tigers, or bears (oh my). What are some of the "well, that was strange" encounters have you had with humans while out hunting? This should be interesting ;)

Two encounters come readily to mind.
1. I was about 16 years old at the time. Dad, my brother and I were out hunting when we saw this fellow walking up the road. We stopped and talked. Dad asked him if he wanted a ride to his car. The man was just walking along having a nice walk in the early Autumn afternoon. He thanked us and declined. The next thing we heard was that the sheriff's department was looking for him. Later he was found dead in the brush below the road. He had a heart attack very shortly after we left him. What seemed so strange is that he was not particularly old (about 60) and looked to be in perfect health.

2. Our family was having a 4th of July picnic at a forest campground. As we sat around visiting and having a good time, I started seeing what looked like National Guard troops sneaking through the brush across a creek. They were all armed with military style rifles. The trouble was their uniforms were not matching and the Guard doesn't normally practice there, or on the 4th of July. There were no Army vehicles anywhere in the area. We decided it was a good time to just go home. I still have no idea who they were or what they were doing.

Not hunting but fishing. Came around the bend of a very remote creek that was only easily accessible by boat. Saw a photographer taking pictures of a lovely woman decked out in nothing but her birthday suit. Hard to concentrate on fishing for a while after that.

I was walking up on a fox I had trapped,.. its attention was elsewhere. Some Native fellow was performing some sort of ceremony 30 feet from the trapped fox.The fox just seem interested in what the fellow was doing and had all its attention . I felt more than a bit awkward. I just laid down in the grass waited till the guy left,.. dispatched the fox and ran the rest of the traps.

I was just getting off the river with a boat load of beaver. Some guy walked down to me, made small talk about the river, fishing and my trapping than asked if I wanted to spend some time with a girl that was up on the bridge

A farm I had trapped on for years. A new cable had been put up and the road posted. I was pulling that trap line when the farmer lifted his plow and came racing towards me with tractor faster than anyone should drive such equipment.the farmer made all sort of threats and ever other word seemed to start with an F. The next day the adult son call me and apologized. They had committed his dad to a hospital shortly after our encounter.

I think I posted this one a few years back.Archery elk hunting, A hot day Im taking a nap in the shade of a rock.My camo looks just like the rock. I see this chubby nerdy looking fellow running and pointing a gun at different targets. Just like we did as as kids playing army. We're in no-where land. Im watching him through the binos,. I don't think he heard me laughing. :o The guys some distance off all of a sudden he points the gun right at me. I rolled for cover and look up and hes running for his car one of those "Cubes" and its purple I don't think anyone's ever left that desert so fast

Another one I posted here a few years back.
A white-trash car,.. little kid stuff parked in the desert. I hung around all I could think of is some fool driving in the desert with his girlfriend and kid. I left detailed note stating I would be back about 10 PM that night. I left lots of food and snacks , ice water, juice coolers.
I had left my blind that day about 11:AM just too hot.
Later I came back to the blind,.. elk tracks My Sd card was deleted on my trail cam, same boot tracks as mine, that night back at the cars location in the dirt.
" Thnx for the,... Sorry about the pics"

. My dog starts growling,.. some guy has his shotgun poking though the grass on the edge of the field, I pop the layout doors open and yell,.. and the guy was running
Same place a year apart, flight coming in, I drop three birds and some guy takes off running. I hunted further in the field after the second occasion

Im sure there are dozens more,.. plenty of crazies in the woods

Met a guy this year at a trailhead that strained the limits of the English vocabulary. I had no idea that one particular word could be used as a noun, verb, pronoun, adverb, adjective, participle, and probably some others that I forgot about......all in the same sentence. Just try making a sentence when more than 50% of your words have to be the Fbomb! It actually is harder than it sounds and given his limited intellect I was actually impressed in a backwards kind of way!

Come on!!!! Where's the Bigfoot story??? Someone has had to of seen one.
Me and my dad had buck tags for our home unit I think I was 12 and were hiking, we created the ridge and seen a truck parked off the road, looked up the ridge a ways and seem the Hunter sitting there waiting. So we dropped back down the other side and were a little ways down sitting in a little opening. Then we heard a gunshot coming from around where the guy was. We crested the ridge and looked down to the guy very hurriedly throwing a pretty nice buck into his truck. He then began kicking the ground all over looked like he was getting rid of evidence. We seen the drag mark from where he shot the buck and drug it to his truck. This was about a 10 minute time frame from the shot until it was in his truck, whole deer no gutting anything. So we immediately thought he poached it and was taking off. We headed down quick and my dad called out to the guy as he was getting in his truck, he figured if he poached it he was gonna take off and be gone but he waved got out and waited for us to get there. We talked a while checking out his deer and all that. He even had it tagged with a legal tag, names matched everything. My dad even somewhat knew who the guy was but never met him formally so knew he wasn't blowing smoke about his name. He finally just flat out asked what the hurry was and why he didn't gut the buck, he said it was to warm he wanted to get the buck down the mountain and in the cooler then he would gut him once he was in the cooler. Seemed weird to me as I want that gut out asap to help reduce the heat. But we just figured to each his own. Funny Thing was he was in such a hurry to get that thing loaded and down the mountain but pretty much wouldn't let us leave just kept talking and rambling about our hunt, where we had been where we might try all that. We talked for like 20 minutes before my dad finally said you should prolly get on down the mountain before that deer spoils

I never met the guy, but where we used to hunt in NE MT for pheasants, there was a local that was convinced a plane crashed INTO the earth near there and he would, on occasion, dig huge holes trying to get the survivors out. Yep, he believed they were underground. Big holes too.

Lets hear it

Some people get all of the luck! I was in MT bear hunting in 1995 with 2 other friends and was glassing the other mountain and spotted someone who I thought was one of my buddies. Had the same camo and appeared to have a the same mesh style orange hunting vest. I was wondering how the hell he got over there so quick and was scratching my head trying to figure out where he got super human powers to achieve this. I continued to watch him through my binoculars to see what he was doing or where he was going when he nestled down in some rocks. I was laughing to myself thinking what the hell is he doing. I continued to glass for bear again for several minutes before turning the binos back on him and made a grisly discovery that he loved his hand VERY much right there in his rock nest! I thought wtf and moved down the ridge to a different spot. Later when we all met back up at the truck I could not help but to ask where he was hunting and he told me which was not even in the area I was in. I then told them the story and we laughed our butts off as how I saw this and how I thought it was him. Later that afternoon we went to a local pub for a burger and beer and as we were sitting there enjoying our meal the bar door opens up and here comes this fella in that still had his hunting gear on that resembled my one buddies clothes. Apparently my face showed everything because my two buddies looked at me and then at the guy and we all uncontrollably burst into laughter. I am surprised "Spanky" did not get angry as to why 3 strangers in the bar were laughing at him like this and didn't punch all of us in the face(we were early 20's and young and dumb). This is a TRUE story!! And btw we now to this day call that mountain Spanky Mountain.

Dennis,
I don't think there is much more to the story. He obviously had mental problems and every once in awhile would dig these BIG holes. Like 20X10X8 feet deep. not on his land either, just some random spot. He actually believed the planes were flying around down there too if I remember right. Otherwise, apparently, he was pretty normal, however, I never had the chance to meet him.

Not to pull the topic off on a tangent but that crazy guy that was looking for the plane was probably one of the Hollow Earth people. They believe that there is a society of aliens living in the center of our Earth and that there is conspiracy between the government/military to keep it all a secret.

A lot of really insane people live in our world.

Like Ive repeated often crazy people in the woods scare me way more than any grizzle, or mama moose.
People are very predictable,. with the exception of the ones missing screws.

This has nothing to do with hunting. Dad and mom got back to their car where a woman was crawling around, and looking under it. They asked what she was doing. She explained that she needed to find just three more marbles to get her brother out of hell. That poor lady definitely had lost her marbles. I thought she must have been drunk, but I was told that was not the problem. A strange encounter, but not funny.

My buddy Joe and I used to hunt an area down south in WA state. On one day hunt away from our base camp, we were traveling back to camp on a hard ball road when in the headlights, about 8:30 PM or so, on the side of the road walking towards us we saw a little girl in a white dress, no more than 8 or 9 years old . Quite the site to see 30 miles away from the nearest small town. I stopped beside her and asked what she was doing and her reply was "looking for my mom and dad, they're late coming back from hunting". I told her to turn around and head back up the road to her tent. Joe and I followed her in the headlights for a hundred yards or so till she turned left onto an old dead end spur road. Once we saw that she was close to the tent, and, her older brother (maybe 11 or 12 years old) came out of the tent with a flashlight in hand we got out of the truck and chewed the older brother out for letting his sister walk around in the dark. We knew about this camp and there was a set of young parents camping/hunting there and the two kids. Oh, and there was still a dressed out deer hanging by the tent that had been there for the better part of a week (with daytime temps reaching into the upper 70s). They were gone a few days later, obviously taking their well "seasoned" deer home for butchering
