I think the place we plan to take our elk is $200.

Boneless cuts and frozen will run us about $200. If you get sausage or jerkey made you'll be adding another $3-4 per pound. I've paid up to $400 to have an elk processed, which was under duress because it was hot and they were the only shop open on Labor Day. My current processor leaves his cell number on the door of the shop and you can call and drop animals off no matter the time of day or day of the week. Most processors also charge for skinning, so save yourself a few bucks by skinning your own animal.

I would agree that $200 is average for an elk...

A local fellow has .70 cents a pound cut and wrapped.

Around $200-$250 seems to be the norm around here. I do my own. I have a grinder and a commercial tenderizer that makes some beautiful steaks. Helps to have a wife that used to be a meat cutter as well.

Yea I do all my own whitetails as I have the full setup as well. But I'll be pressed for time this year with elk unless we tag out early.

Wherever you take it, be sure to de-bone it yourself first.

Processors will charge you 'hanging weight' and you can save some serious $$$ by getting rid of the bone.
Thats the first thing they do.

If you dont know how to de-bone, its not hard to do or learn how...
