Using elk calls for deer and moose

Postby Lefty » 08 10, 2012 •  [Post 1]

My daughter drew a OIL Idaho moose tag. If were too noisy I was planning on using a cow call to cover our sound, Maybe even a decoy if we have one by then

Anyone else use elk calls while hunting other game and what kind of responces do moose and deer have?

My buddy keeps a reed in his mouth while deer hunting. He stops deer for the shot the same way as for elk.

I found just whistling will stop a spooked doe or young buck. They almost always stop and look back.

I've called deer in with a cow call. It's more of a curiosity thing than anything else, but it can be pretty comical because they'll follow you around even after they know you're a human as long as you keep calling.

Lefty

Check out Alex Gouthro's DVDs.

When I drew my OIL Colorado tag in 2009, I found his style of moose calling is what Shiras moose really
like to hear.

Not sure if you need to 'cover' your sounds... moose are very curious.

In July I called these 11 moose right up to me... using his method
