I am not surprised. High pressure has moved into the Front Range. I am wearing my hunting stuff now to the archery range and not enjoying it even with waiting until 6 pm to go shoot.

Rest assured, the mountains are cooling off and still getting moisture while back down here we bake.

Any rattlesnakes?

Last goat I killed was after a 2 1/2 hour hands and knees stalk in 102 degrees. Love that goat hunting!

Yep! I've tried spot and stalk again since then but I've never come close again. It's a blast, but definitely a lot of work.

I put on a 4 hour stalk last weekend which almost ended with me having to give in because of sun stroke! This is not only the most challenging type of hunting I've ever done but also the most strenuous! Hard to believe, I'm sure, for those that havn't tried this in flat/open country.

well I wasn't gonna say it for fear of being stoned, but I agree, goat hunting isn't for the weak of heart. you either spot an stalk in flat areas that require a lot of crawling in extreme heat, or you sit in a blacked out blind in extreme heat. either way it will suck the life right out of ya. cant wait for tomorrow. :D

Yea, to do it right and under the right conditions, you've got to be on the prairie when it's furnace hot and hunt during the middle of the day. It's a tough way to go but those antelope steaks are some of the best I've ever had so it's well worth it!

We had a great time Scott. Thanks for doing a great job with the Heads Up Decoy.

I went back the next morning believe it of not. Same time as when we went.

I had a great chance but got screwed by the farmer.

All the details ate here. Too much to repost here:

Btw, I'm still recovering from the miles of stalking. The 100 degree heat made it almost most exhausting than hunting elk up and down ridges.

I had stalks each of the last two mornings that pushed 4 hours each. Per the GPS, I only logged 5 miles total during both, so why does it feel like I just ran a marathon? My body aches in places I forgot I had. Saturday's stalk blew up at 80 yds out. This morning's should have resulted in a 25 yd broadside shot as the buck came past me on the crest of a rise, behind a pine tree and crossing to my left. The tree-crossing was gonna be my moment to draw. But he zigged when I wanted him to zag, turned 90 degrees and came straight over the rise, rather than parallel to it. Crossed the rise at 35 yds to my right and immediately busted me. Game over. Exhausted. Grinning ear to ear. :D
