111,953 on my 2005 dodge 1500 and its dead :x

its in the shop right now awaiting a new motor. apparently my last drag race was a bad idea :!: . I spun a rod bearing and damaged the crank along with some other things.with my method of driving being as it is, a person could add a couple thou to the odometer.

My 98 chev z71 has right at 145000. Thinking of a new ride before fall even tho it still runs strong. It's a short box with a regular cab & I just need more room. It has served me well for the last 13 years.

Just passes 55,000 miles on my 2011 Toyota Tundra SR5. Its still fairly new to me, but my previous truck was an 04 F-150, and at 181,000, the overdrive went out on the transmission, and the engine jumped time, and when the happened, a couple of pistons slapped the valves, and bada-bing bada-boom, the motor was shot. I'd say she was done, since all of that happened in a 2 week period. I love my Tundra so much that I don't know if I could ever go back to a Ford. Its a different kind of nice, and the power in the 5.7L iForce engine is absolutely ridiculous.

so reliable, it is boring. i keep up with maint (oil, tranny fluid flush, etc). it is still on the original battery! which makes me nervous.

I got tired of my old Dodge as it rode like a buckboard, and was annoyingly loud. In 2011, I replaced it with an F150. It has less than 15K on it.

2002 F150. 115,2XX. According to the oil change sticker, it is due for an oil change at 116,800 or 2/16/2012. (Yeh, I didn't go elk hunting last year!) I'll be fixing that this year!

here. http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/toyo ... 28104.html

you use a pickle fork to open up the springs to slide in the spacers. this is what toyota came up with to fix the myriad of complaints about the loud leaf springs. 5min job. i dont think the tires even need to come off. dont use your finger to insert the new bushings..;)

Well, I have a 2003 Dodge 2500 with the Hemi, worst truck I've ever had. Terrible fuel mileage, mediocre power, rough riding. Its got 170,000 and is soon to be gone.

I have a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I picked up from an elderly that lives in town lady that put damn near all of the 95,000 miles that is has on it. It will get broke in this fall.

My favorite hunting rig is my 2008 Cobalt. Since I walk everywhere and I don't own an ATV of any kind, I don't need to pull anything. Its got 115k and gets 35 miles per gallon, and thats way more important to me than my ego, which is why I bought the Hemi when I was 19.

well pointysticks if it works it will fix the only complaint i have about the truck. other than they come stock with weak tires. i went to that link and it had a spot where i could enter my vin to see if the part is the right one, and it said they can not determine if its right. weird. cheap enough, ill just order one. the kit does both sides ? or do i need to order two? thanks for thehelp

No underside squeaks in mine (yet). My dash blower fan kind of chirps on the lowest setting though, kind of like a high pitched, one noted cricket.. Weirdest thing.

thanks for the links there pointysticks. i think ill just forgo the hassle of a dealership and do the bushings myself, theyre only like $23 online, and looks really easy. my fan doesnt seem to chirp anymore, so ill just leave that one well enough alone and deal with it if it starts again. now if i could just talk the dealership into covering a new paint job on my warranty haha. bought the thing brand new and like 3 days later went up into the mountains and scratched the hell out of the paint job. sometimes i feel like the thing to do would be to just strip it and rhino line the whole thing

you're welcome W!

good luck. my tacoma is silent. i do get a gentle audible, "hmm" sound when i first put it in D and pull away. the owner's manual said it is normal, and is my ABS pump priming itself. my wife and i both let out "hmm" in perfect sync with the truck now. we do it without thinking.

i tore up my truck too :( . looking for elk. got it cleaned up decent with rubbing compound. they dont make wide truck trails in Idaho. i love the 2011's..you have ATRAC..i dont.

when i took it out right after i bought it i went to "explore" a mountain i hadnt been on yet. well, went down an old skid road that started off okay... kept getting worse and worse, soon i had stiff branches going down both sides of my truck, but kept going figuring it would come out somewhere and of course it didnt. had to back out, scraping whole truck on both sides from back to front. oh the joy. guess i had to get it over with at some point.

and on a side note, since youre in idaho, if youre ever dying to take somebody wolf hunting throw me a line. its way up there on my bucket list, just havent explored idaho yet. panhandle is not a far jaunt for me at all tho

How many miles does your hunting vehicle have?

Postby RockChucker30 » 07 03, 2013 •  [Post 33]

I'm rocking a 1989 F250 7.3L Diesel as my only vehicle right now. It's got about 165k on it.

It's the old farm truck and sat for 8 years broken down so I've been getting it going again.

Vanish you most definitely do not need a high clearance vehicle to get into elk country at your new locale. In fact, you will end up in less hunter pressure areas because you can't get to the top of that mountain or ridge. You would be surprised at how many high clearance vehicles pass on some good locations because they want to go to the highest spot.

primary elkmobile 2002 Toyota Highlander 113,000 miles

backup elkmobile 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback manual trans 172,000 miles

My little Honda has gotten me down many rough forest service roads, over mountain passes during blizzards and out of people's steep snowy driveways. The muffler gets beat up by the snow and had to be replaced frequently, but it never kept me from going on lots of forest service roads. I had to be mindful of which side the muffler was on. It also fits a lot of stuff inside it. At 38 mpg, it is tempting to take it hunting.

I have the same truck. Just passed 240,000 miles, bought it in 2008 with 86K. I'd agree with all of your assessments. It is a rough riding sunofagun, but it just keeps going. Just put new tires on it, so I'm stuck with it til I get my money's worth out of those...

Just saw this...better late than never!
I've got a 2011 F-350 diesel, with 59,000 miles on it. BUT....got tired of scratching it all up on some of our narrow trails, so just bought a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, which has 172,000 miles on it. Nice and narrow, and runs like a top! Hope to get a few years on it still....

05 Ford F250 with a 6.0L. It has 113000 miles on it. Love the truck when it's running good, hate the 6.0L when it's not! I put in a new oil cooler, EGR cooler, alternator, rear axle sensor, and FICM in the past 2 years. It'll pull anything when it's running good, it's loud, blows smoke, and sucks down the diesel but it's mine so I'll keep it until the wheels fall off.

i just changed my oil and did some maint..getting ready for this year's hunting season.

crazy..i only drove 5000 miles since last sept. last big run was to Idaho. my truck sees very little use as a daily driver. my last oil change was last sept..and just did this oil change..august.

that is only about 250 gallons of gas! maybe 10 fillups? i should drive more.

I have the same truck. Just passed 240,000 miles

Correction - It had 240,000+ miles on it. Now it sits in a wrecker yard after being towed off the mountain last weekend. While distracted by elky looking country, I managed to slip a tire off a road shoulder, onto a steep embankment, and roll a complete 360. My two young sons and dog were with me. We all walked away uninjured. Don't ask me how, other than there might have been guardian angels riding along with us. The truck is a total loss, but I don't care. What's really important to me made it home to sleep in their own beds Sunday night.

The upside is, after insurance and such is worked out... new truck!

Wow. Glad you all are okay. For some of my forest services roads, it is a steep way down.

Wow. Sounds like a scary ride. Some of those roads are dangerous. Glad you are all ok. My ride is a 2002 Silverado with 96,500 miles. She runs great but the salt they use on the roads in the winter is starting to chew holes in her.

Yeah, poor pooch was in a kennel in the back, and I think took an extra 360. The topper sheered off the truck during the roll, most of our camping gear and my sons little 90 cc ATV scattered everywhere. A few heavy items managed to stay in the bed some how. The dog/kennel ended up next to the truck, semi right-side up, off of the driver side rear panel. I think as the truck came over to rest, the weight of the dog carried the kennel out of the truck in the opposite direction over the bed rail, hence the extra 360. He's an old dog and doesn't get around very well anyway. He was a bit shaky for a few minutes, but eventually drank some water and was wagging the 'ol tail again.

Still cannot believe we walked away from it. Can't say without a scratch, my youngest son had a small scratch on his forehead from flying glass. But other than frazzled nerves, no major physical injuries.

Don't know what's next - shopping now!! :D

I've seen this truck, parked way, way back off the roads, close to WA wilderness areas.. There are stories of a crazy man who wears a native American style bandana, whom runs elk down on steep hillsides, that may own this truck. Some say if you gather firewood for his camp, he'll treat you to a steak dinner... just what I've heard.
