dunstan chestnuts

No, but I've considered it. I found a wild American chestnut growing from a stump sprout a few years ago and it got me interested in them. It's amazing that those trees were the most predominant in the forests prior to 1904, even outnumbering oaks.

well ive posted this question on something like 5 forums and havent gotten a single person who says they personally grow them. so i think to be on the safe side ill just plant half a dozen next spring, and if they make it through the winter ill go crazy on it and plant a hell of a lot more. supposedly theyre very hardy and should be able to grow where i want to plant them. but sure wouldnt want to buy 50+ at $25 a pop and have em not make it.

dunstan chestnuts

Wawhitey, take a look on the QDMA forum. There are a ton of guys there interested in habitat restoration including the American chestnut. Realtree nursery is now selling the Dunstans so a lot of guys there will have experience with them.

Personally I'd like to have a few. Supposed to have the tree characteristics of an American with the disease resistance of a Chinese.
