The Taste of Walleye

Postby cnelk » 06 02, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Spent some quality time on the water this morning with a fine gentleman catching some walleye.
You may know him as Jaquomo.... [Lou]

Caught walleye, smallmouth bass, and perch. A couple nice walleye made it home for the baptism in hot oil later

I can smell it sizzling as we speak! From the looks of those white legs, I certainly hope Lou remembered the sun screen... 8-)

Buddy, I miss walleye fishing. That's all I grew up on in ND... never heard of such a thing as catch and release until moving to the mountains!

Where are you fishing?

Nothing better than walleye straight out of cold water and into hot oil.

Now those legs. Those sunglasses had nothing to do with the sun! LOL!

jerimn I don't know where you live but there are several lakes around Loveland ft Collins area that have walleye. I don't have a boat to get to them but they are there.

I had some more walleye in the freezer and I added the fresh fillets to the them and fried them up along with some tators.

Then after supper I took my daughter out to a public lake not far form home and she hooked into a nice 20 incher!
What a great day

Eltaco, your new state has one of the best, underrated warmwater fisheries in the country. We spent 3.5 days at Lake Powell a couple of weeks ago.

We fished for walleyes for two days, and caught over 50 of them between the three of us. Not bad for having never been there before, not using electronics and just guessing at where they might be located while cruising the lake. I met another group of guys that knew what they were doing and had a bigger boat to get uplake. They had over 200 walleyes in three days.

To top it off ... you can keep them all, and fillet them right there on the lake. There are so many smallmouth, stripers and walleyes in the lake they need fishermen to keep the population down to keep the fishery healthy.

Oh yeah, and walleyes were not the fish we caught the most of either! ;)

We've been doing pretty well here in CO, but I think Lake Powell is going to become a yearly (if not twice a year) trip.

Love them walleyes! :D
Wish we had nicer weather, seems as though it is constantly raining around here lately but between Lake Sakakawea and the Missouri River, the fishing has been pretty hot. This is my biggest so far this spring with most of the fish being post spawn now.

I have been in a few times for some friends work. Most recently with the elk in my avatar to get a shoulder mount. First elk and only animal to get done, I figured with a once in a life time ND elk tag, why not? They have a really good reputation so for me it was an easy decision. What is his name?
The office I work at is about a block away from the shop.

Yes, I know who he is. I spoke with him last year when I stopped in the second time. He was in the unit to the south of where I hunted.
At the time he hadn't got one, never did here if he punched his tag or not.

Thanks Vanish. Not much here on the Western Side of things, but I'll have to figure out a couple trips at some point.

A wheelbarrel load of Erie eyes. Milk jug for size reference. We actually hope for smaller ones to eat. When I take rookies we let them take the hogs home. lol

Can't top perch though!
