June workouts

Postby ctdad » 06 02, 2013 •  [Post 1]

The last two years, my workouts in the summer were mostly P90X and a little bit of biking, running, backpacking. I'm so bored with those videos, I decided to mix it up a lot more this year. Through some of my own ideas, some web searching and some ideas off of this site, I've designed a workout for my entire summer. I have been working out all year, so I'm not just getting started, but I do plan to increase my fitness level significantly over the next three months.

Each week will be slightly progressive and each month harder than the last. Below is my plan for June.

Anyone want to offer some ideas for July and August workouts? Variety is the spice of life.

Week 1
1. bike ride (9 miles gravel) and abs/lowerback (this is today btw)
2. chest and back weight lifting
3. stretch
4. elliptical with 50lb backpack 30 minutes
5. leg workout with weights
6. stretch
7. crossfit – 1 mile run, every minute do 10 burpees and 10 situps

Week 2
1. Leg workout at home (air squats, deadlifts, wall sit, calf raises, lunges)
2. P90X ab workout and bike ride (8 miles gravel)
3. stretch
4. 3 mile run
5. hike 2 miles 50lbs in pack
6. back workout and abs
7. stretch

Week 3
1. crossfit – 6 rounds, 10 burpees, 10 pushups, 10 situps: 10 sec L sit x 5
2. Leg workout with weights
3. stretch
4. swim – 1 mile
5. chest and back weights
6. P90X plyometrics (or maybe a bike ride just to get outside)
7. stretch

Week 4
1. bike ride and abs/lower back
2. leg workout at home
3. stretch
4. crossfit – 5 rounds, run 200m, 10 airsquats, 10 pushups
5. P90X chest and back
6. treadmill 50 lb pack incline of 6 for 45 minutes, speed 4
7. stretch

Nice going!! Great to see you are being creative there, you should be in some great shape for this years hunts, thanks for sharing.

I'm taking a few weeks off so my back will calm down a bit then I'll get back after it mid June, before that I'd been doing pretty good with the workouts so it shouldn't be too tough to pick up where I left off.

Jumped on trampoline with my two boys for 40 minutes both days this weekend along with my scheduled workouts. That is some serious exercise. It is very apparent that my 4 and 6 year old boys have super human strength. They jump on that thing for hours. :)

My entire morning of appts at work rescheduled so I thought I'd get my workout in. Just looked over my list and today is suppose to be a bike ride. It is raining so hard out right now, I can hardly see 200 yards. Think I'll modify the plan and head to the gym.

Good luck at the gym! I started my pack training a week ago, have been on 3 hikes now at aprox 2 miles per trip, will build to 3 soon. Started with 50# & will up it 5# or so a week now till Sept.

Flexibility (of schedule) is very important. I don't get married to any activity on any specific day. Some days run and elliptical, other days it is run and hike with pack. I'll bike ride as recovery.

i am also gonna do those ankle stretches to prevent sprain ankles. i will start as soon as my current sprain heals. :(

just did 50 miles in the backcountry and avoided any ankle sprains. last week walking to train station in the dark..twist city. darn irony!

my wife makes fun of my slender ankles. :)
