i could shoot 50 with my bow, about 100 with my ml although i would prefer not to because of open sights so would prob limit myself to 75 or less. 300 with a rifle if everything was perfect on an elk, 225 or so on deer size game.sure i could shoot farther, but would rather not tempt fate with my personal abilities

Only hunt with a bow so to answer your question. 40ish yards for a big game animal. I have a 60 yard pin on my bow for perhaps, a second shot at an already "hit" elk to shorten the track. I have only taken a first shot at a big game animal at 50 yards plus a few times.... and they had no idea I was in the country. Way, way too many things can happen while my arrow is in flight to risk a bad hit.. Just my thoughts.

I will go with 40 if everything is just right. I really prefer 30 and under.

I'm with RJ and Swede on this one. 40 yds max and prefer under 30.

Back in the day, I used to put clay pigeons on the kill zone on my 3D deer target and bust them regularly at 70 yards (bare bow, instinctive)

Nowadays, it's 50 yds max, and I've never shot at an elk over 45 yds. Conditions would have to be PERFECT for me to take a 50 yd shot on elk.
Best of Luck,

43 yards....... seriously, furthest shot I've ever taken on any game was a35 yard elk. I like slam dunk shots and don't imagine shooting much over 45

50 yards Elk
40 yards Mulie
30 yards Whitetail (faster)

This is all assuming ideal conditions (wind, shot angle, critter angle, calm critter . . . )

I really don't think I'll ever take a 50 yard shot on an elk, but I feel confident in my abilities given the conditions.
