Travel Management & OHV Program

Postby cnelk » 04 24, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Here is a link that many may find useful

In November 2005, the Forest Service adopted a national OHV rule. The rule requires each national forest to formally designate specific roads, trails and areas where motorized travel is permitted and to show the routes on a MVUM. Once the rule is fully implemented, motorized travel will be permitted only on the roads, trails and areas shown on the MVUMs.

You can go to the state you will be hunting, select the National Forest.
On the left side of the screen select Maps and Publications
Select Maps
Then select Motor Vehicle Use Maps [MVUM] for the Ranger District you will using.
These maps will show you where OHV [ATVS] and other roads that are open and closed for travel.

You may be able to locate roads closed to travel that may give you good access to elk areas.
