Smoked me some wild turkey

Postby cnelk » 04 08, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Decide to make some room in the freezer and pulled out my son's tom turkey from last spring.
Marinated it for 8hrs
Rested it in frig overnight
Fired up the smoker and added apple chips and steamed it with apple juice
Added BBQ sauce glaze and misted Mtn Dew to caramelize

OMG!!!

I've never smoked a wild turkey, but last fall I smoked a regular ol' butterball. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! As good as the turkey was, the soup I made from the smokey bones and pieces was probably the most delicious turkey soup ever. I got a turkey frier for christmas, and I'm torn on how to do my next turkey: to smoke or to fry, that is the question!

Looks good. We cooked up our last turkey for last spring last night as well kind of like Thanksgiving in the spring, ours was a Rio and they seem to be drier that most Merriam’s we have a had, probably should have done some marinating before hand….
