small batch meat grinding. food processor.

Postby pointysticks » 03 12, 2013 •  [Post 1]

i know some of you guys have huge elaborate meat grinding systems..

i use a food processor. i can do 3/4 lb - 1lb each..takes 30 pulses..so it is slow. but it works for me. i dont make sausage (yet)..only burgers, and some other various uses.

check out these patties!

Looks like it does a mighty fine job. I bought a big hand grinder from Northern Tool and put an old wash machine motor on it. Works great. I can grind all the burger meat on an elk in probably 1/2 hour. Never really timed it. But I can sure grind it faster than the wife can wrap it. I think the grinder was around $70 bucks and the motor and belt was about $18.

Yes Bill let's see it.

You don't have to really spend a lot of cash for a decent grinder, we payed 150.00 or so for this one & we've done 5-6 elk & that many deer with it & it still is going strong. We also have used it for dog food stuff as well.

Bigger isn't always better. I have a #22 grinder which is a beast and I hate to fire it up unless I'm really doing some serious grinding and making sausage or something. It'll last a lifetime though. Still wish I'd bought 1 size smaller.

I don't have any pictures but here is a link to the one I have. If you look down in the lower left corner you'll see a picture of one hooked up to a motor like I did mine.

Here at home i have a cheap cabelas one I think cost 100 or 150 for doing deer and hogs! It works perfectly fine for those! In CO im allowed to use any of the equipment at the processors. Im not sure what size the grinder is but im sure I could stick my leg in it if the guard was off. I could grind an entire elk in under 10 min im guessing! Probably closer to 5 min!

I found mine at Wally World $40. It's ground up probably 10 deer without a glitch I can grind 10# of scraps in about 5-10 min.
