Right now, I plan to be there. I am not good. I belong to the Academy Archery Club. I just started doing 3D last October. I am not competitive, however, the 3D shoots are helping me get better for elk hunting.

Good Luck and have fun!

CO Springs at Air Force Academy just outside the South Gate.

Since the security level was raised, visitors can't get in south AFA gate. The club now holds it just outside the AFA.

Take I-25, Exit AFA (Academy Blvd) South Gate.

At light, turn right (West).

Take first right (North).

Notes from our newsletter with directions and details.

Additional Information:

~ Our tournament uses ASA arrow speed guidelines. Top speed has been increased from 280 fps to 290 fps. Because of this considerable increase in max arrow speed, the ASA has dropped the Outlaw and we are following suit.

~ Like last year, turn north just prior to the Academy south gate; continue along this road to the gate and turn left to the former Sportmen's Club. Do not go to the gate.

~ Visit website for last-minute weather-related information academyarcheryclub.org

~ POC Al Duhon: 719.481.4749

Registration:

8:00 to 9:00 ~ targets assigned 9:30 ~ shotgun start 10:00

Cost:

$20 Adults

$15 Young Adults (15 to 17)

$10 Youth (10 to 14)

Cubs Free (9 & under)
Divisions:

New ASA arrow speeds apply: 290 fps (+/- 3%)

Male Bowhunter Open (moveable pin)
Male Bowhunter (fixed pins)
Male Senior (60+)
Female Compound (all sights)
Male Traditional
Male Senior Traditional (60+)
Female Traditional
Medals awarded Youth & Cubs

General Info:

~ Awards will be presented for each leg and an overall championship belt buckle after the 3rd Leg.

~ To qualify for the overall championship belt buckle in a division, you must compete in all 3 legs. Minimum of 5 archers in any division for individual leg trophies.

~ Lunch will be provided for a minimal cost.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of some of our members, I need to make a clarification regarding ASA limiting arrow speeds noted on our Triple Crown flyer. The 290 fps ASA arrow speed limit is for the Male Bowhunter OPEN class only. Please note that this is the reasoning behind our decision to be in agreement with the ASA in dropping the "Outlaw" class. The 290 fps (+/- 3%) will effectively increase the speed to that which would closely mimic the speeds that the "Outlaw" class shot last year.

Note also that all remaining classes will be limited to 280 fps (+/- 3%). I hope that this will help you in properly tuning your bows before you show up on April 6th for the first leg of our tournament.

There is a good chance that we will set up the chronograph somewhere on the course. At the very least, we will chrono all winners at the end of the competition. Thanks for your patience with me! I am always open to all input that makes our tournament more successful.

Tomorrow's (June 15th), 3rd leg of tournament at Air Force Academy is postponed due to the Black Forest Fire.

Here is the announcement

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION

Due to the very volatile and quickly changing Black Forest fire, we must in all good conscience cancel this weekend's 3rd leg of our Triple Crown. Jackie and I have evacuated our home for the time being which will further disrupt our ability to put on the shoot. We are trying desperately to access our website to update it - so far , unsuccessfully! Keep checking the website as we will post updates as soon as we can. Don't give up on us! We will have the third leg. Your board thanks you for your understanding. SAFETY FIRST!
