After a few PMs back and forth with a member on Hunt WA this evening, it sparked this thread. Give us a year and either your annual or even monthly income that was your first job paying the bills. Let’s be clear, I’m not interested in your job at Mickey Ds as a young teenage sprout living at the folk’s hacienda in HS, but your first job where you had responsibility with rent, perhaps a spouse, even family…. I’ll start. 82, last year of first Army stint..780 per month with first wife. The pawn shops were my friends at Ft Bragg to help with gas money some months. Fun times :chuckle: Let’s hear yours.

2008, going to college and living in a house with my fiance. Guiding fishing trips full time. Averaged about $3000/month. Enough to pay cash for school and pay all my bills. Was a pretty good time in my life.

1964, $420 /mo, Sandia National labs, in New Mexico. Had to borrow $1000 to get from PA to NM to get started. Paid $25 /mo. to pay it back. Ate lot of pinto beans the first few years. Bought old dairy cows for meat, $.03 /pound live weight, $.02 per pound hanging weight to get them processed

I started in the Navy in 1965 at $78/month. After the Navy in 1968 I went to logging for $3.25/hr. I hated logging. I did not like to go to bed at night because I had to get up at 4:00AM to go logging. Given a choice between the Navy and logging, I would far rather be in the Navy. I went to college and started working for the Forest Service on Summer and Christmas break. The pay was poor at $2.08/hr., but I enjoyed the work most of the time. Fortunately, after getting out of the Navy, I was soon married, and my wife was paid more than me and she worked until well after I was on the Forest Service's permanent workforce.

Wow Swede! That $78/month sure sounds familiar. The Air Force didn't pay any better. LOL! My first factory job paid a whopping $1.35 per hour. I was eventually lucky enough to get a power plant operators job and made enough there to retire early.

My dad taught us, if you want to eat you gotta work! We worked hard and made lots of money. My brother and I at 13 and 14 scrapped copper,, asking farmers and going through river side dumps, Copper was $2.00 a pound, Sold bait fish , worms ,fur,,, and muskrats were $3.00 Heck in HS we were making more a year than our teachers (lasted 5 years or so. )
Started working for my parents, construction contracting when 9 years old, then Summer times and afternoons until I started college. I had bought a house and rental, April 1978, 20 years old Contract-for-deed $350 a month
Dads health went bad, brother and I bought out our parents.
Going to school full and part-time paying my own University.

Offered full-time athletic scholarships that I rejected over and over,, Same reason I didn't go in the military,, I didn't want anyone telling me what to do,,, which was interfering with hunting and trapping.
My first wife ( 18 months). I was making big money in Construction and trapping. Making and spending stupid money.

Met my Idaho girl dropped the other girlfriend; and married in a couple months, Three months after marriage first house and rental were paid for (9 years 9 months) Haven't had a new trucks since,,, ,, Been in debt ever since ( just a house payment, never CC or vehicle )
Ahw it was worth it!

Still have the Craftsman tool set from when I was 17, Own 4 fewer boats( Minnesota) Used trucks No longer own a solid wall fish-house. and likely hundreds fewer duck decoys, hundreds fewer traps , fewer firearms, I count ammunition by the box insead of the case
