COFFEE!!! Favorites and keeping it hot

Postby Jhg » 05 16, 2023 •  [Post 1]

I will drink whatever is available and not complain or even mention it but I do enjoy good coffee when its around. (Sometimes diner coffee is about the best thing on earth after a cold hunt).

My wife gets me this because she finds it on sale locally (probably since it is also made nearby). Anyway, there are many great coffees out there. Whats yours?

My go to hunting coffee thingy. Notice it has no flip lid or anything. When its cold (late rifle) any kind of easy open lid undermines the hot capability and we all know how we feel about cold coffee, don't we. This one is about 18ozs and stashes inside any pack side pocket or easily nests in the main compartment if its below zero.

When at home or in camp I drink the Folgers crystals that come in the little tube packets. I have one cup in the morning and one in the PM. My wife and I both like the packets of coffee but she will have one cup per day at most. For me it is better to heat up a cup of water and make a fresh cup, than brewing two or three cups and reheating it.

I usually drink Costco Brand, whole bean dark roast that I grind myself. I have to drink decaf now to keep my BP lower. I always liked Dunkin Doughnut's
coffee.

Out hunting, I carry a Pocket Rocket, big metal cup and individual instant packs in my saddle bag.

YUCK. I honestly am surprised at this. Those things are awful.

I am a 1 cup of caffeinated coffee and then a french press pot of decaf the rest of the morning. I like really good coffee but I can't afford the stuff that's $12- $15/ pound. I buy the Pete's or store brand stuff that's on sale.

I have an 18 oz Yeti that I throw in my pack. Keeps it steaming hot all day especially if I preheat it before putting coffee in. So nice to have hot coffee on a cold morning way up the mountain.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

My sentiment exactly, but to each his own. I know there are those that don't want the instant coffee packets I like. To each his own.

Mrs Wapiti buys the Costco Pacific Bold little cups for the Keurig, this is my weekend coffee; just use a normal coffee cup and heat it up in the micro every so often, I don’t like cold coffee. For work, I normally stop at the shoppette on post and make a concoction with their steamed coffee machine (foamy Carmel latte dispenser) 1/2 and 1/2 with a European bold coffee; just in the normal cup with a sleeve. Hunting? Most often used are the G7 coffee packets x2 in a lightweight, insulated cup from GSI. These Vietnamese made coffee packets have the coffee, cream, and sugar all in one.
