I did not have a taste of alcohol in 55 years until recently.
Many years ago, I was dating a pretty young lady that said she enjoyed going out with me when I had not been drinking. I had only had one beer that day. Even having one beer was not a regular habit. I told her I would not drink as long as I went with her. We have been married for over 54 years now. As awful as it may sound, I broke my promise to her about a month ago. It was in the most unusual place and the most unusual circumstances. I visited a church when they had communion. We always just have grape juice at our church, but the tiny amount of wine in the little communion cup I received had actual wine in it. My record is broken. My wife who was not familiar with the communion at that church got a couple of drops of water in her cup. I guess I was not paying enough attention, and no one said anything from up front before communion was served. The Lutheran Church where we attended was very special and welcoming. I hope to go back again someday.

I drink about one once of hard spirits a year. I have acquaintances who are semi-pro drinkers. Drinking is the bedrock of almost every single activity they enjoy.
I went fly fishing with them once and it was as much a out being able to stop in bars between destinations and 5% fishing. The rest of the time was driving. Sucked. Never did that again.

I enjoy an evening with a cleansing ale. Dogs and a fire.

I really enjoy good whiskey, which is exactly why I don't drink it often. I have also found as I've gotten older that hard alcohol, even in small/moderate amounts keeps me awake all night. So I've strictly limited my intake. I used to enjoy to a 6 pack of beer on a weekend, but the price has gotten to be so ridiculous for the beer that I like that I can't stomach paying for it anymore. At $11-$12/6 pack, x 52 weekends a year, I'm looking at an average of about $600/year just have a couple beers on a weekend. Not worth it to me. That almost pays for an Idaho elk tag
