December 2022 WT Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 12 01, 2022 •  [Post 1]

This month’s theme is “Old Friend (critter variety)”. Post up a pic of an old friend (critter variety); horse, canine, etc. that you spent many years with.

1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the December 2022 contest is (to be determined).

Im not waiting to post and miss the deadline this month.
We have hundreds of pics of "Holly Hunter Hauser ", Truly the Super dog of a lifetime: She won every roset for dogs at the Idaho state fair for two years ( different daughters) state jr, and Sr, Highschool art and photo contests winner.Hated coyotes Unbelievable elk spotter. She had so many incredible retrieves, Followed hand signals out to 800 yards. Fiercely loyal, Hated elk season, She could swim for hours on end with kids . I could sleep duck hunting and she would wake me if birds were coming
She would "stay " on the ATV for as long as commanded,

This is one of the photos a neighbor kid took of Holly and me, I was sleeping, There are a whole series of photos the kid took

My Chesapeake Bay Retriever, BUSTER! He spent the last 5 months of his life, living on an elk outfitters ranch with me. Outdoors all day, every day until his hips finally failed! What a special summer!!

My current buddy, jake, as a pup is in the background of this pic. Ol yeller dog in the foreground is otis. He was about as good of a dog as you could ask for. Had a bad start in life but my parents took him in and gave him a good home and i had a lot of good years with him. He was loyal and fearless. About the time this pic was taken, my parents dirtbag neighbors great pyrenees dogs came onto their property and went after jake. He went squealing toward the house. Otis heard the commotion and busted through the screen door to help him. Jake made it in the house in one piece and otis fought the bigger dogs long enough for my mom to run out with her handgun and start spitting lead which ran the jerk dogs off. Otis had a trip to the vet after that, got his butt whooped a bit, but made a damn good show of himself. Hes been gone a few years now and i still miss the old guy.
His 2 favorite things in the world were frisbees and raw venison. He got plenty of both.

Another pic of otis, but not my official entry. After frisbees and raw venison, i think his 3rd favorite thing was chewing the hell out of sheds. That dog had jaws like a hyena. He didnt get to chew up this one. But he got to destroy a lot of smaller deer antlers and i brought him some moose paddles on occasion just to let him freak out on them.

Hard to choose just one dog, one pic. Of all the dogs over 40 years, otis the yellow lab and heidi the gsp were the best. Think ill stick with my original submission as my entry, but heres heidi with her chicken friends, heidi picking raspberries (both heidi and otis enjoyed picking raspberries in the garden and huckleberries in the mountain) and a pic of otis and heidi together. Man this thread kinda sucks, making me sad. Those were 2 awesome dogs.

That was a tough decision. I wanted to pick a photo that showed the dog and her personality, but also doing something fun, because she was always up for a good time. I've got a ton of hunting photos of her, but most are at distance, or in water, or etc.. etc.. Those are for another day.

On this particular day, Chloe and I went in to retrieve my bike trailer that I left stashed in our Blacktail hunting area. It was about 7 miles behind a locked gate. She trotted in next to me, and when we got to the trailer spot we left the bike and continued on a 4 mile loop, doing some scouting, grouse hunting, etc... By the time we got back to the bike and trailer, her feet were hammered from covering so much gravel road. I decided she had earned a free ride back to the truck. She wasn't so sure about it at first, as you can see in the first pic, but within a few minutes, she was really enjoying herself (2nd pic). 1st Pic of her just standing in the trailer is my entry.

My Izzy, when I picked her up she road home in my lap, when the time came, she took her last breath in the same spot. I figured she owns this part on me.
