August 2022 WT Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 08 04, 2022 •  [Post 1]

This month’s theme is “an oldie but a goodie”. In other words, let’s a pic of an “old” outdoor gear item that you still use that still works fine and dandy.
1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the August 2022 contest is (to be determined).

How old does it have to be qualify? Many you old timers on here (Swede) have gear that is older than I am.

Olde gear or kids. Can't compete if those are in photographs. Have both at once and its pretty much over. Just sayin.

You’ll be fine with whatever you guys have that is an old piece of gear to you, that you still use. Swede already promised he wouldn’t post up his Winchester repeater from the Custer battle; that should show all of you what a great guy he is.

That's just him showing off. I hope to get a good picture of my oldest piece of gear in action this weekend. It's last 3 shot group last weekend was .54" edge to edge 8-)

I was just out of boot camp in that picture. After I adjusted to a new normal for my life, I enjoyed the navy. While in the service I met this pretty young lady, and we started dating. To make a long story short we decided to get married, so I got out of the yacht club. That pretty young lady is still Mrs. Swede. I was pleased to be in the navy, and I am pleased to be out. Thanks

Well she didn't get to bark this weekend, but she did have a bear in her sites. I just couldn't get as close as I wanted to fast enough.

My oldest piece of gear. This is my first rifle, a Ruger M77 MKII 7mm Rem Mag. My dad went halves on it with me when I was 16 for my birthday. That will be 22 years ago in 11 days. I've used and abused it, emphasis on the abused it. It just keeps on ticking. I went out 2 weekends ago to check my zero before this last hunting trip and a 3 shot group with edge to edge measurement of .54". The rifle definitely shoots better than I can most of the time. Here's to hoping for multiple one shot kills this season.

My “new” gun is 23 years old this year. Lol I’ve killed 23 elk with it. Not my biggest though. Took a few pictures too.

This gun has killed all but 5 of the big game animals I've taken. 7 elk and 14 deer I think. When I shoot this gun I know the bullet is going exactly where I aim it. Such a great feeling.

I havent owned it more than a handful of years myself, but this is my oldest piece of equipment. Marlin 336sc .30-30 manufactured in 1949. Still works just fine. I guess it helps that it spent several decades just sitting untouched in a safe before it came into my posession.

1960 Savage 99F, .308. Very, very accurate

Many an elk has fallen to this fine rifle.
The recoil pad is to fit the length of pull to my reach.

I dont have a savage 99 (big savage fanboy though) but i have a couple winchester model 88s in 308 that have taken several deer and bears. Something really great about a lever gun with a detachable magazine. May have to bring one of my 88s out of retirement at some point for old times sake. Also, my first deer was taken with a BLR .270, another similar concept to the 99 and 88.
I like your style. Youre a man of refined taste.
