I think i need a cowboy hat

Postby wawhitey » 07 29, 2022 •  [Post 1]

So can i wear a cowboy hat being as how i dont own livestock? I rode a horse once when i was 11 years old. Does that qualify me? Has to count for something. I think hunting in august, on hot sunny days, one of those kinda breathable meshy lookin cowboy hats might be just the ticket to keep my head sonewhat cool while providing shade for my eyes and preventing sweat from dripping down my face. I may not know how to ride a horse or round up cattle, but ill have a lever gun and a revolver on me, which i figure has to count for sonething, right? Whatsayyou wapititalk folk?

The mesh ones aren't really cowboy hats anyway, just big brimmed. They're practical for what you do so go for it. No Stetson for you though, then you'd be a poser.

I wear a straw cowboy hat in the summer. It helps keep the sun off my face and neck at times. I wear it because I am light skinned and do not want skin cancer. I do not have a horse or a cow or even a pair of cowboy boots. I recommend you get one for the same purpose. :D

My excessively large skull seems to be a problem. Hard to find hats that fit me. Guess i need to go down to the western store in spokane to maybe find one that will fit. No time for that before bear season this year.

While you are in Spokane, you can pick up a good horse and the tackle you will need. You can also find a good horse trailer. You might as well go all in.

All depends why you need one.
The right boots and cowboy hat can draw the right ( and wrong ) ladies!!!   So be careful.

I use to buy those cheapo straw sun hats, Wide flat brimmed, We use to call them Amish hats. Did a great job for sun protection , A t $7.00 each you could forget them on a fence post and buy a new one.

If you rode a horse once, you can be a cowboy.
I bought an elk license once,,, And Swede and I are moderators on an elk forum

Good thread, I have pondered this for many years. I have rode horses many times, live in the west, hunt, camp, etc. I have never had livestock and I don't like country music much. I always thought I would be a poser so I will stick to my ball caps and sun hats then. :D

People whom wear them all the time do not call them cowboy hats. It is a hat. Same with boots. I have not had any cows for 50 Years.I have had horses and mules. When I left home ,I swore I would never milk a cow again and I don't mess with beef either. Cheaper to go buy one and have it processed. I wear felt hats October thru April and straw all summer. I guess you could call me a horse man or mule man. A cap sure doesn't protect your ears ore from the sun anytime during the year.
