My Guide of 48 years has passed

Postby Billy Goat » 07 18, 2022 •  [Post 1]

none of yall knew him, but no human could impact me more than my old man.

He passed last Friday morning, after a multi-year battle with cancer. it got into his liver and took him pretty quickly.

He was lucid to the last hours, and we took that chance to talk through many hunts & fishing trips we've had over the years. His passing was "clean", leaving nothing unsaid. He took countless kids hunting and fishing, and left a favorable mark on all of them. If I learned anything from him, its the fun in passing that torch to others. We are diminished.

2019 pic - our group of 5 killed 2 muley bucks, one bull, one bear and a 48RE Dodge transmission. :) I got to help him pack his bull off the mountain. He helped me with the transmission. We're even.

I will blubber through a eulogy on Wednesday that was very easy to write, but very hard to read.

a life well lived.

in keeping with Cotton Cordells guidance (my signature), he taught me well.

"Don't despair because its over, smile because it happened."

My dad died awhile ago and it is not easy what you are going through. But you took an opportunity and made the most of it. Many people wait until its almost too late to share life with their parents.

He poured his love into you and by that he lives on.

I'm sorry for your loss. Like others have said, be happy that you lived a life together with your father instead of at odds with him or waiting until to late to build a relationship. You have all the memories.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

So sorry to hear of your father's passing mister. Prayers send to you and your family as you go through these challenging times. He sounds he was a heck of a man and touched many in a positive way.

Truly sorry for your loss. I only got to hunt with my father a few times as we lived so far apart, but I treasure every one of them
