July 2022 Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 07 05, 2022 •  [Post 1]

The July 2022 WapitiTalk.com Photo of the Month Contest Theme is: “Something smells fishy here”. In other words, let’s see some fishing themed photos. ;)

1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the July 2022 contest is (to be determined).

Cisco Fishing/netting on Bear Lake o the Idaho Utah border.
Think of Columbia smelting or great lakes smelting, but also legal to snag them too.

Limit is 20 fish each. That morning their best dip was 9. We had our 60 fish in 20 minutes

Entry change. This is the biggest muskie to ever be in my boat at 55 inches. My wife is proud as a peacock because my personal best is 54.5 inches. She caught a 50.5 incher 5 hours before that and in between those two lost an absolute monster at the boat. She can barely hold the fish up. A good day!

I've taken more fish pictures than anything. I spent over a decade as a fishing guide between Alaska and Washington, on top of the thousands I took just fishing with friends and family. I have to pick just one!?!?! I guess I'll post one of the big ones.

Offshore Sitka, AK. The guy that landed it was my Uncle Neil. Amazingly, my family always seemed to land on beautiful weather when they came north to fish with me. This day was greasy calm and flat on the ocean, and I wore flip flops most of the day. This fish was 82" long, coming in just a shade under 300#. It caught me off guard when it came to the surface. Other than the initial hookup and run, the fish never did much as my uncle is a slow deliberate fish fighter. I was expecting a fish in the 100# range and only had a gaff and hay hook on the rail. When it came out from under the boat I noticed it was barely hooked, so I made the call to hit it as hard as I could with the club and then hay hook it over the side rather than risk it making a run on the surface while I got a harpoon ready. The plan worked flawlessly except for the act of getting that fish over the side of the boat with just the hay hook and no securing line in it. In she came though, with both feet on the gunwale I squatted as high and hard as I could and slid her over the rail with a big slap when she hit the floor. Fish and chips for days.

I agree. I decided to play fair and not post the 4 year old with the fish. Wanted everyone else to have a chance.
