Dang, that’s a GREAT outdoor movie.

List one or a few of your favorite outdoor themed movies. Hunting, trapping, fishing, survival against all odds, you get the picture. In this age of crapola in the theaters and on TV, let’s share some of the better stuff to find and watch. Plug in a trailer URL if you would please. Here’s a sample. “I really like this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N_p3qvmDdI0”. Dunno about you cats, but besides The Revenant, I can’t find anything recent to spend time watching.

I liked the Revenant. I struggle watching movies based on historical events that I'm familiar with though. All I can do is pick apart the inaccuracies of it. It's amazing to me that newer movies can't get historical facts correct, or even animals used in movies and landscape. It just can't be that hard.

Moving along. I think the all time best is probably Jeremiah Johnson. I watch that at least a time or two each year.

The Grey, with Liam Neeson wasn't bad. Definitely Hollywood dramatized but it was entertaining.

Even though it really has nothing to do with outdoors in most hunters perspective, I've always gotten a good laugh from The Great Outdoors with John Candy.

Maybe I can come up with a couple more.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

It is amazing to me there are not more movies about hunting, mountains, etc. How do you watch Jeremiah Johnson? I want to watch it with my boys, but I dont know how to find it.

You can rent or buy it on Amazon. We stream with Amazon Prime on our TV so it's easy to pay a couple bucks to rent it. I also own a DVD that is nearing the end of it's lifecycle.

Paint Your Wagon. It was filmed near where I hunt and have hunted for many seasons. It is interesting that there was no trace of No Name City soon after the film makers left.

Alone in the Wilderness - the life story of Dick Proeneke

not a hunting movie, per se, but absolutely the best outdoor video I've watched.

guy from lower 48 builds a cabin in the Lake Clark area of Alaska and lives there many years. WORTH THE DVD PURCHASE!

teach them second to love their family
and third, teach them to hunt and fish,
and by the time they reach their teens, no dope peddler under the sun will ever teach them anything".

I have heard that Ol' Dick was rumored to be involved in some arson cases by his cabin. Apparently he didn't like people too close.

Do you suppose that is how "Alone in the Wilderness" came about? :D
