Saying hello

Postby elkguygirl » 01 08, 2022 •  [Post 1]

My guy is an elk hunter (Jhg) so I thought I would see what wapititalk is about since he seems to visit here a bunch.
I went hunt with him one morning- we left the camper in the dark and using our headlamps walked a thin trail until it came to a pretty good size creek. We crossed that on a slippery log, then hiked up and along a finger ridge. We sat in the timber and watched the dawn from up above a long narrow meadow. Even though we were in the trees we could see anything that walked out into the open below us. Pretty cool.

welcome to the group. agree with whats been shared above.

I'm glad to see another lady on the forum. I'm still trying to get my daughter to go elk hunting with me sometime. she is WAY too focused on school (3rd in her graduating class).

again, good to have you here. :)

Welcome egg to our humble forum. I am curious if your guy is a member? Do we know him? Feel free to tell us a little about yourselves. We don't need a lot of details as this is not Elkharmony.com.
Don't pay too much attention to Lefty and Tigger. They know elk hunting, but they are a pair of squirrels.

Yeah, well...

I now know when Joshua says " lets go for a hike." Its really: lets go bushwack scouting elk holes.

This picture shows me on my birthday crossing a river to do "just a little off trail stuff..." according to you know who. Somehow he got me to go where he wanted and not where I wanted. It was fun, but not THAT fun. Last time that happens on my birthday!

I will admit the birthday bushwack was ill advised. We had to avoid a bunch of private land once we crossed the river and then it was no elk sign at all, anywhere. No history, no early or late season use, no rubs, no feeding areas. Sometimes it looks good on a map but it really isn't good at all.

Well happy birthday!!!! And give us the scoop on you two!!!

Just so you know, when my wife and I were married, our honey moon was to Southern California,, where I trapped for bobcats.
My wife has celebrated a few of our anniversary's checking traps, duck hunting and goose hunting. Our best dates have been antelope hunts ,,,,,,, Our retirement cruise,, to Alaska to hunt and fish,,,,

I don't know what the problem is with being in the elk woods on your birthday. It has been many years since I was not out elk hunting on my birthday. In fact, I killed my elk this last season on my birthday. It was a great way to celebrate the day.

She likes being in the woods on her birthday. Just not in the woods where I might want to be.
