Christmas tree

We make getting the tree an annual family big deal- snowshoes, dogs, teenagers, all day, deeper snow the better.

We have never done a public land tree hunt. We always head to one of the numerous tree farms near us. However, the prices have become almost criminal so Iay need to start scouting out some national forest trees next year.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

Most of mine have been public land trees. After all I worked for the Forest Service and getting a permit was as easy as going into the front office and paying for a tag. I knew where I could get an excellent tree well before it was time to go cut one. I would see one and just remember where it was so even snow was not going to hide it. Now most years we do not have a Christmas tree. My wife and I are at home by ourselves until Christmas day when we go visit our daughter and other family. Mostly Christmas is about the Biblical accounts for my wife and me.

Every tree we ever have had in our married life has a story. Most have been BLM or Forest Service trees. We've gone to a U-Cuts in Washington, One local U-Cut had sleigh rides, hot chocolate.

A drunken native fellow stting on the corner with a bunch of trees he had cut was our kids favorite with him sharing some great stories, or tales!

Sometimes an ATV, or snowmobile ride up the mountains, Neighbors cutting down their grove, once the blue spruce when we bought this house. Sometimes the uglier tree the the better the story..
Christmas trees are just another way of having great family time

Cut ours at my hunting land on Saturday. Kids went along. Boys hunted pheasants while the daughter and her boyfriend helped me find and cut one. Perfect looking tree for a wild one with no trimming. I love having a tree in our house.

I live between two Christmas tree farms and have one just a little farther away. The one is about a 1/3 mile drive and the other is about 1/2 mile off. I still have not gone out for one.
