Thanks to all that have served.

It was an honor to serve. I am proud to have stood for America in another turbulent time. I too appreciate all who have served honorably. Thanks.

A big thank you (THANK YOU) to all who have served.

In the armed forces, not part time at McDonalds while in high school!

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties.

Memorial Day isn't about those of us who served, it's about those that lost their lives while serving. Please, don't lessen the importance of this commemorative day by making it about your time in service, it has nothing to do with merely having served.

I retired from the Marine Corps and lost family and friends while they served their country so I take the distinction very seriously.

Great clarification Rammont. That is a distinction many do not understand. I myself am guilty of this.

Although I will say, it is done with purely good intentions. I have a buddy who served in Afghanistan. My son said, "Dad, we should get Ryan a present today". I was proud of him for that!

Rammont is absolutely correct. Still, I think is much less of a degradation of the holiday to express appreciation to all who have served honorably in uniform, than turning Christmas into a celebration of a bearded elf in red pajamas and a squirrely red nosed reindeer.
We have Veterans day to commemorate those who have served well in uniform.
My dad and five of my six uncles voluntarily served in the armed forces during WWII.
Dad and one uncle were in the Seebees. They never cared to talk about their service, but wanted to move on. Three uncles were assigned to ships in the Navy. One uncle served in the Army 101 Airborne Division.
The lieutenant uncle in the 101 Airborne was decorated with several purple hearts and left for dead by the Germans after they jumped in behind the lines just before the D Day invasion. One uncle on the USS Cassin Young was on board when they were hit twice by Kamikaze planes. They were under attack many times. The Cassin Young is still tied up near the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor. Dad and two uncles were never injured that I know of. One uncle was on the USS Plymouth (a patrol gun boat) when it was hit in a magazine off the coast of North Carolina by a torpedo from a German U-boat. The flash of the explosion was said to be visible for 100 miles inland. My grandmother got a flag and I assume his purple heart in honor of his service. These brave men are all dead now. Please excuse me if I celebrate them all on memorial day.

Armed forces Day: Tribute to those in uniform
Veteran's day: Tribute those who served
Memorial Day: Tribute to those who served and never came home.Whether it was in the War of Indpendence, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, All the fighting in the Middle East, and all those forgotten skirmishes in between.

Thanks to all though
