Yes Sir..it looks like some type of small/medium sized furbearer trap. After some digging around, it is a live trap used for wolverines. Here's an internet article I found which shows this type of live trap being used in ID.

Looks like the wolverine traps I have seen, but I have always under the impression that protocol was to take them down when they were no longer being used....

Yes indeed, it's a Wolverine trap used by the Forest Service in these parts!
