4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or star in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

Not part of the contest, but the end result!

IS, I need some leeway here. It was a mid September hunt with no rain and warm temps in the forecast. We risked it.

Nope disqualified. Weather has nothing to do with it. It’s about red hot embers landing on the canvas. You’re crazy!

Maybe he has a rain fly on the tent in the pic, you just can't see it in the pic cuz it's from a distance. Tell em' 7MM ;)

Too late he already confessed. I’d be scared elkdudless to start a fire in my tent without something over the canvas. I’m planning on getting 25 years out of it!

Nope, no rain fly, no tarp. She was naked as a jaybird. In my defense, we've had that tent since 2000'ish so it's 20 years old this year and looks to be effectively brand new upon close inspection. That is because we DO run it with a tarp 98.7% of the time. We also run a quality spark arrestor which helps immensely. This particular hunt was short, and hot and we knew that if we started a fire in the tent at all, it would be short lived. I believe we slept 3 nights in the tent and had a fire 1 of them.

My guess is that tent has 20 more years in it.

I used to own a Colorado tent with the side poles like that. It was ok but not the best for snow loads. Did you pack that elk head out on a backpack like that.... unskinned with lower jaw and all? Heavy!

Too bad the elk head isn’t in the first picture right. It’s a better camp pic. So which one is your O-fficial entry?

I agree, not the best for snow loads. The tarp helps with that a lot, as does a hot fire.

I'm going to stick with the original picture for my official submission. I like that camp picture. Im going to work on some good ones this year for next years contest though.

And lastly, yes, I packed it out that way! Along with the entire hide to be tanned and the backstraps. It was a gigantic load!

Depending on where you're at and how far you hiked, that could be considered the absolute lap of luxury!

lol, that picture was taken 5 miles in in Idaho. Beautiful morning! That morning, I called a 6X6 herd bull in that had 4 cows with him and my brother in law missed him at 20yds standing broadside...didn't think that was possible until I witnessed it.

This is a May 22 pic . That September the tent had 14 onches of wet inches of snow on it.
broke poles during the week. Some fellow archers watched the tent grow as the snow melted
And these pics arent for the contest

5 1/2 moles in in Washington.... means you were a half mile from the next road over. Kidding of course. I hunted up near Deer Park once. I did really well calling. Other hunters came from every direction. Also I saw hunters with guns riding around in the beds of pickup trucks. Crazy!

Some people on forums who advocate for calling never seem to understand there are many places like that. Your situation seems extreme alright, but is not that far from what I see. If I call I am much more likely to bring in hunters than elk. On my last calling outing it was five hunters, zero elk.
And yes, I see bow hunters riding in the back of a pickup hoping for a drive by shooting. They are more likely to see a small buck than an elk, but they are opportunists. They shoot at everything they have a tag for and will shoot their bow at critters at least 80 yards away. I know that as one bragged about cutting the throat on a buck at that distance. Does anyone think he intended to cut the deer's throat when he released his arrow?

One time in Montana, too close to Missoula, we were working a bull. He wasn’t overly talkative but sounding off enough that we knew he was heading our way. We were split up by about 20 yards and tucked in as he was pretty close at that point. Out of nowhere a hunter comes literally at a full run right between us heading toward the bull which never made another sound. After a short while the guy comes walking back the other way with his head down. He didn’t even give the bull time to come in. There is being aggressive but then there’s just plain impatient.

In NE w Washington one time... where it was really hard to get a bugle, we heard one from waaaay up above us. We called sparingly not wanting a call shy bull to go silent and head the other way. We were set up 40 yards apart. Eventually I saw the hunter making his way downhill. We let him get directly between us. Then he froze and looked directly at me and said “my dad told me it was another hunter and to enjoy my walk back up the hill”
