What was your first wild game harvest?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 04 22, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Found this thread topic on another site I frequent and after asking the OP if he minded if I plagiarize it (he said yes by the way), here it is.

What was your first wild game hunting (or even trapping) harvest, and, how old were you when it occurred? I remember the details of most of my successful outings over the years but I'll never forget my first ones. Please do the poll thing (you may select two options; use one for critter type and one for your age). This should bring back some good memories!

I think it was a deer, but that was a looooong time ago. Dad was a deer hunter more than anything, and that is all we went after for my first few years.

It would have been a rabbit or squirrel, probably a squirrel since they were abundant living around the corn cribs on the farm. It would have been shot with Dad's bolt action Remington .22, and of course Mom cooked whatever we shot. Head shots only, you didn't want to waste the meat.

I really dont remember what was my first take other than hundreds of little birds and mice with BB guns. But likely it was a muskrat before I was 12 . Then ducks the year I was 12. My best friends brother in law took us out to Middle Lake to hunt. The guy just sat at the car and watched us shoot
But I was a little trapping an killing machine when I was 13. I killed two buck White tails in Saskatchewan Minnesota had closed the deer season squirrels, ducks a few rabbits Trapped raccoon fox muskrats and mink on a bicycle trap line

My first kill was a big whitetail doe when I was 15.

First was wild quail here in MO hunting with my grandfather and his .410. I was probably 10-11. That was 28-29 years ago when there were still abundant numbers of wild quail covies on my grandfather's place and surrounding areas...sadly those days and my grandfather are gone now, but those memories live on in my mind just as vivid as if it was yesterday!!
