Lasik Eye Surgery

Curious as to who has had this procedure done.
Why?
What was your correction prior to having it done?
Any issues after the procedure?

I have astigmatism, and I need new glasses so am pondering lasik.

If I could I would in a heartbeat, I cant imagine seeing without contacts an what a miracle that would be. no brainer imo.

I would do it in a minute if I had the $$$. They can fix astigmatism and virtually all other vision problems with the current technology. However, not everyone has positive results. It's like any other surgery...no guarantees.

If you have it done let me know how it went and who did the procedure. There are many LASIK groups out there...I know you will get references and choose wisely. Good luck, Brad.

I had mine done 15 years ago:

I had astigmatism also. My wife wanted me to have it done, she said it was to guarantee our food storage. You know all the problems wearing glasses My sight was corrected to 20/15 and 20/17.
My suggestion buy plenty of saline to keep your eyes comfortable the first couple days.

I was quite disappointment, women at the beach weren't as good looking as I had imagined

Had it done in 2002, so says the wife, I'm not sure, just know it's been at least 10 years. I did it cause I hated wearing glasses and contacts. My regular eye doctor talked highly about the procedure vs the other procedures at the time, so I did it. I had a slight astigmatism in one eye.

I forget my vision prior to surgery, only that it was near sided and wasn't real bad.
Mine vision got better than 20/20 but doc wouldn't tell me what it was he just said " you don't worry about the next two lines"

The only side effects I have is some lights at night have halos most don't, but had that with glasses so it was a no brainer. Plus I wanted to enjoy no glasses until my eyes started crapping out at the magic 40 YO, , , , which is 5 years ago and fading fast these days if I recall correctly this is due to muscle in eye weakening; must be due to the hill they say you go over, but I still am looking for.

I understand they fixed the halo issues and its cheaper now, mine was 2500$ per eye. Good thing is I can have it again if I wish to have one for reading and one for far off.

Overall I've got zero regrets, enjoy it every time I see others fighting glasses.

I dont mind wearing glasses, it just that I need bifocals and I know that can mess with seeing thru peep sights and rifles scopes

So...
Has anyone had issues seeing / focusing using peeps or rifles scopes after LASIK?

I've had no ill effects with either peep or scope. You should find a good eye doc and just do a pre screening, that is usually free and they can tell you if you are a candidate for it and what your options are. My was done with a second generation scan/tracking machine, seems like they had gen 4 machines out before my last follow up exam, but I've slept a lot since then.

I'd love to have it done, but i've lost sight in one eye. The doctors won't take a chance on operating on my good eye to just correct vision.

I had it done about 13 years ago. If I remember right I was far sighted with no other problems. The biggest problems I had with glasses was I would go through a set of lenses a year. Working in the dust of road construction I allways wiped the dust off even though I knew it was bad for them. I went to contacts but really did not like them for hunting. If I looked really hard to the sides they allways shifted on my eyes. Lasik has been a really good thing for me. They told me as I got older I would need cheeters and now at 48 I have to use them for real small print. So far I have not had any problems with my peep on my bow. I don`t shoot a scope much but have not had any problems when I have.

The one thing I will say is after years of glasses was I got used to having some eye protection from the glasses. The first time I went in the woods after Lasik I got a stick in the eye. Trip to the ER for that one.

I had Lasiks in 93. I had horrible vision and I wore glasses since I was 2 years old. Coke bottles were more descriptive. I don't remember my old numbers but I could not get out of bed without them. Within 2 days of eye surgery my vision was 20:10. Wow. This revolutionized my then current hobbies of Mtn Biking, skiing and ice climbing because I could now see without the distortion caused by the constant motion of the glasses against my face and of course fogging which proved nightmarish while skiing and ice climbing. However, my eyes healed too fast according to my doc. Within 6 months my vision degraded substantially and thus I went under the laser a second time. Again, my vision went to 20:10 and after about 6 months stabilized at 20:20. I was in eyeball heaven for about 5 years when old age effects began to compete for my close vision. I started wearing glasses again at that point and have continued to wear them for the last 15 years (but no astigmatism now). I can still ski and climb without glasses so my primary reason for the surgery is still valid and even though I now wear glasses all the time I would have had the surgery and recommend it as it really did help me in my life. Although, with my current vision I am not considering further surgery as wearing glasses is no longer such a negative in my life as hunting is the only time fogging becomes problematic and that is fairly rare.

I got denied surgery about 7 years ago. I have corneal neurovascularization in both eyes. At the time they wouldn't cut through the blood vessels that were growing in my cornea.

In a couple more years I'd like to try again but have my doubts.

The option they left me with was to do a lens implant.

That's simple. It's just like a cataract surgery. I had that done in my blind eye when I could still see out of it. It's done in the office.

Do it if you can. My job offers FLEX spending so it was something we took advantage of right when we got married. She said it changed her life. She had some halo affect for about six months. Now she gets the occasional dry eye.

I wish they could fix far sighted ness.

Had it done ... got 10 or so good years ... but keep in mind, your eyes still age ... and you'll still need readers someday.

They were a fine 10 years, though.
