Can't post much anymore. Wondering how everyone is doing. Gave away my last mule, sold the camper, horse trailer and most hunting gear. The old dog pasted on. Only my wife and myself here now. I have an accommodation permit from CPW that allows me to hunt from my truck . I drew and antelope and deer tag for eastern Colorado . Time will tell if I can do that. I sure miss elk hunting and pack trips into the high country. At least I am still on the green side of the grass .

Great to hear from you saddlesore! Good luck this season. I have heard eastern colorado can hide some giant deer. You may find some plains elk too

My son and I were in Colorado last week and spent one night in the Spring, thought of you while we were there.

The game and rules can change.
Our local CO gave my dad a cross bow and permit ( AND PERMITT)

We got my FIL got a handicapped permit, for the ATV and drove trails only for permitees,, My wife gutted the deer,, Nephew had to go up the next day to get the deer. But his best memory of that hunt,,, he couldnt belive he missed a monster 3x3

I do not know why I missed this thread, but I did.
I am totally sorry about your hunting situation. I really understand how you feel. With my wife's health and my age, I am right on the brink and never certain if or what lies ahead. All I know is that any and all hunts I have left will be precious and few.
Keep posting as you can. You have a lot to offer newer elk hunters. I hope to pass on to anyone that wants to read, what I have experienced, observed and learned about elk hunting. When I can no longer go on a hunt myself, I hope to be in the elk woods in spirit. Maybe I can experience things vicariously through the eyes of someone that read something which I shared here, or they picked up by reading Tree Stand Hunting Rocky Mountain Elk.

Vince! Good to hear from you. I miss elk hunting too. Can’t seem to draw a license. I am hunting mule deer in Colorado this year though.

You know…. we can’t ride ponies and roam the hills forever. But some of us have spent so much time in the high country that we have thousands of images and memories in our minds to look back on and talk about. There comes a time to sit down and look at a few of the racks on the wall and find joy in some other things. At least you live in Colorado. You can always take a drive into the mountains. Imagine being in your shoes and living back east.

I hope you have some luck if you find the time to get out. You should drop in more often. Take care my friend.
