August 2025 WapitiTalk Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 08 04, 2025 •  [Post 1]

This month’s theme is “Hunting Camp”. Let's see some pics of your hunting camps.
1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the August 2025 contest is to be determined.

My favorite hunt camp pic.15 years back:
Two wyoming doe antelope tags,
Labor-day weekend
Youngest daughter.
9200 foot elevation
9 degrees
Lincoln county

She was suppose to get a pic on me counting Coup
We snuck up, great sneak daughter sits down to take the pic at 5 yards, I move in close to the antelope, Daughters fumbling with the camera, and says "  just a minute" Antelope jumps up,, and was dead before it made it 20 feet.

I processed the antelope, Found a motel,,, Interesting the lady in the lobby had two rooms,,, which they save for non oil workers. Sunday morning we went to church and the gal was speaking in sacrament

Greatwapiti I like the seat. I used to have a framed plywood platform with a seat on it. I’d screw it across two logs over a big hole and keep a bag of lime there. Who gets the honor of emptying your bucket!

6 miles in. Bare necessities on this hunt. One thing about me and camp…. I have to have a level spot to sleep. I won’t sleep well if I’m rolling to one side or sliding down to the bottom of my sleeping bag. That’s one of the biggest benefits of a cot. You only have to dig small holes to level them. I pound a hole with a hammer. Shim it up with wood or bark if I have to. Gotta be flat!

You can see how this tent was set up using only 3 lodgepole pines. I love this method. The back end of the ridge pole is sitting on top of a branch and there’s a ratchet strap holding it tight to the tree. There’s no A frame in the back. Easy and wind proof.

Bear camp from last weekend. No bears were harmed in the production of that hunt.

I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.
