Blacktail in a bronco, circa 1985ish

Postby wawhitey » 10 09, 2024 •  [Post 1]

So my dad died back in august. My mom is selling the house and moving away, so this weekend i was helping her sell a bunch of his stuff. Big garage sale. Not very enjoyable but had to be done. Somebody wanted his gun vise out in the shop, and when he picked it up, this old photograph was sitting underneath it for some reason. Big blacktail buck he got when i was just a little rascal barely out of diapers. He was probably 31 yrs old in this pic. The old mount was falling apart, and a few years back he had our local taxidermist hunt down a good blacktail cape and remount it, and he did a great job. Im going to see about getting this little photo framed, and hang it up next to the mount in my house.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. That is a great memory for you and that photo framed by the mount will be awesome.

I am saddened to read about your dad passing away. He got a great Blacktail buck. Living here in Blacktail country I don't see one that nice every year.

My mom found his b&c score certificate for that blacktail buck, so im keeping that too. But im not taking any mounts until the house sells. They kinda make the place look nice for perspective buyers. Especially since his biggest buck was actually taken on that property. Im taking his blacktail and a real nice whitetail mount that he got on a nearby mountain, but his big honker buck is going to be hung up at the sporting goods store in colville i think. I asked a guy there about that and it sounds like theyll put it up. Id rather put it somewhere where people will see it, than hang it in my house.

Brought my dads biggest whitetail buck home today. Was planning on hanging him inthe mom n pop sporting goods store here in colville, but kinda want to keep him now, at least for the time being. He kinda compliments the 2 big bucks ive taken. All similar in age and size, just with different strengths and weaknesses. For now hes going to live on my wall. May end up at the sporting goods store at some point though, not sure yet.
