My rifle I use for about everything when Im not using my bow is my Remington 700 BDL 30-06, I reload and shoot a165 gr. boattail for antelope to elk. I have several other rifles but always fall back to this rifle.

My primary weapon has been a Rem 700 30-06. 5 Cows, 1 Bison, 1 Moose, 4 Mulies. Most with 180 gr. Partitions until I found they did not penetrate well on the bison. Plus I found a 1.5 gr standard deviation on bullets out of the box and the best I could get was 1.25 MOA. Now I use 175 gr Bergers which result in consistent 0.3 MOA groups. Last year's cow had great penetration with the Berger and a wound channel exactly as advertised. My secondary weapon for distance shots is a Rem 700 Sendero .300 Ultra Mag using 210 gr Bergers which give 0.75 MOA groups (actually at 100 yards more like 1 MOA but at 300 yards closer to 0.5 MOA-not sure why yet). Took a spike last year at 550 yards with this gun. This year it was a T/C .50 Encore with 348 gr powerbelts. Very poor penetration and over 90% weight loss. Even the folow-up neck shot did not penetrate all the way through. Most of the bullet was small fragments within 2 to 3 inches of the entry wound. I will not use these again. My nephew took his cow with a 295 gr Barnes bullet which resulted in 100% retention after penetration to the opposite shoulder and expansion exactly as advertised. This was his bullet.

I use a Ruger M77 mark II 7mm mag. I have shot 140 grain core locts through it ever since I started hunting. Have shot 5 elk with it now and 4 of them have dropped in their tracks. The fifth made it a few hundred yards before piling up. Yesterday I shot it with some Federal 150 grains. Best shooting the gun has ever done, I was getting about 1/2 inch groups. Very happy with how it shot and can't wait for deer season to see if I can follow up.

I shoot a Savage FXP16 in an oddball Remington .300 short mag. The only factory ammo I can buy are Core lokts. If I rifle hunted more I would probably work up a hand load.

my choice is my 7mm Rem Mag M77 shooting 140gr Ballistic Silver Tips or the Accubond in 140gr.i know it sounds light but so are my 390 gr arrows that seem to "git er done"

I have an old Ruger M77 in 7mm Rem Mag. The gun really seems to like the 175 gr. loads. And a well placed shot in the neck just below the jaw line drops an elk like a rock. Don't loose any meat with that shot either!!

Remington Woodmaster 742 30-06. It's an old gun my dad gave me. Had pretty good luck with it. Shoot a 180gr Nosler Partition.

I'm an old Jack O'Connor fan & have shot a 270 for life. 140 gr boattails served me just fine when I hunted with a bang stick.Winchester model 70 featherweight still looks good in the gun case....really should shoot it again sometime...

Been using a hand-me-down Smith & Corona 30.06 since I was 15, but her barrel isn't as fresh as a Spring Chicken anymore, so I'm in the market for a new buddy.

I found the deal of a decade today. A barely used (less than a box) Rem 700 7mm RUM with 26" Stainless and Synthetic for $400!!!!!

Wahooooooo, it's good to have friends with too many guns. :-)

So, I'm going to get somethign new.

I have a Browning A-bolt and a custom built rifle that I got for high school graduation, both in .270

I have also carried my Tikka T3 in .243 in the elk woods. I know a lot of people think that its a little light for elk, but with proper shot placement and a little self discipline, its more than capable.

Browning A Bolt SS Stalker, .280, 140 gr. Core-Lokts for deer. When I go West each year I carry a Browning A Bolt 30-06, and my Son carries a Ruger M77, 30-06. We like to carry the same caliber. I use Nosler Custom 165 gr. Accubonds, and he uses Federal 165 gr. Nosler Partitions. Both rifles shoot both ammos, but each has a slight preference.

I have not hunted with a rifle for years, but still like a 270 Win. I gave my last one to my son in law, but still have a 308 Win. to hunt with. It just sits retired in a gun cabinet. It will probably go to a grand kid some day.

For deer I use either my model 1903 30.06 (Grandpas gun) or my Browning lever action .308 I use this gun when I visit New York to hunt white tales it has raised scope mounts for the thick stuff. For elk I use my model 700 .300 ultra short mag.

I shoot a Tika 30-06, 165 gr. Gameking Boatail at 2850 fps on everything. It works well I have shot several Deer and a few Elk out to 600 yards with it. Would not give it up for anything. I love my Tika.
