Huh.....You Carry What?

What are perhaps, some non standard items you carry in your hunting pack? I carry a handful of the reflective trail tacks (poke them in a few trees) to assist with nocturnal woods navigation to tricky spots. They light up nicely when you bounce a headlamp off of them.

What do you folks carry that is not really a standard item and how is it used?

A Helinox chair. I don't leave home without it and will actually use it in some areas I hunt since I fidget a lot less when I'm in it.

A pen that works, w a long piece of duct tape wrapped around it.

Those reflective tacks can be bought at Bass Pro for about $2 a bag.

A carry a road flare. The easiest way to start a fire with not so dry wood in an emergency.

A 2mil painter's drop cloth to lay meat on while processing in the field.Only few ounces, new is a very small packet. Can be bought at Walmart for less than $2
A new length of clothesline. Again,super cheap. You can cut it up for various reasons and not feel bad about wasting it.When new,it is a small volume although it is 50 ft long.

Latex gloves. Blood fro meat is one of the major factors in dry hands and those nasty finger splits. Although not in my pack I have super glue at camp to glue the splits shut.The yellow kitchen gloves work great, but they are a bit more bulkier than latex .Nitril is stronger than latex.

dental floss, can repair bow strings problems such as peeps or servings, can be used for clothing or pack repairs for short term. Its tough as nails for a small package.

or extra toilet paper. I use it for flagging, I hate seeing surveyers tape all over the woods

I always carry a tube of chapstick. Not only good for the lips, but, it does wonders for sticking zippers on packs, tents, gear bags, etc.

A little beaded bracelet my daughter made me. Never leave home without it, wherever I am hunting

An extra granola and berry Mountain House. Comfort food in case I spend the night in the woods.

A little coin purse, stuffed with milkweed fibers. Attached to my binocular harness with a little keychain.

I use this for a wind indicator. I really like being able to follow these fibers as they drift with the wind currents. It gives you a much better feel for how the wind swirls and what the wind does 20 yards away - very easy to see, and free. One milkweed pod will last an entire archery season. I pick them in early August, let them sit in the sun for the rest of the month, then carefully separate the seeds from the fiber, and stuff the fiber into my coin purse. No work at all.

Far superior to any powder

I will try to take a video of these fibers swirling in the air currents and post it so you can really get the picture. I will often throw up 3 fibers at the same time any you can still see them 50 yards away. No two go to the exact same location, and the swirling is hard to believe.

I just ordered a Helinox chair on Amazon. Already have a nice supply of TP (grin).

The goofiest things I carry are Subway napkins for toilet paper. Don't ask why. I just hate to throw them away.
My wife and I get a sub sandwich about once a week. We always get more napkins than we can use. Well I save and store them in the little plastic bag, the sandwichs comes in, for use in hunting season.

I usually forget a thing or two but some of the things that I always like to have with me are a couple lighters, head lamp or flashlight, 550 paracord, chap stick, a knife and a compass.

I agree that the chap stick is useful for a lot of things. I have used it to help start fires, wax for x-bow string, chapped lips, temporary waterproofing on items prone to rust (like nuts and bolts) and a number of other uses.

The use for the lighter is obvious but I often burn a leaf or twig to get a read on wind direction too.

I have a small wooden statue of a rhino. I take it with me almost everywhere. My daughters gave it me years ago to keep me safe when I was deploying. It's beat up and had to be glued back together several times. There are wear marks on both sides from riding in my pocket. It has several hundred miles and quite a few jumps and missions in my pocket along with a lot of hunts.

I don't but I can get you one if you'd like. I ended up getting a tattoo of a rhino on each calf to represent each daughter.

I carry a grill grate . It is 7"x11" and weighs 3.3 oz. Last year I propped it on small logs. This year I made titanium legs. It goes in a tyvek envelope to keep you pack clean. I use wood to cook unless it is raining.
