Packing question...

Postby bald9eagle » 11 23, 2015 •  [Post 1]

So I made the trip over to the local Cabela's last week. They had the Alaskan Outfitter frame on sale for a ridiculous price (something like 50% off). I'm wondering about using this to pack in. Would it be advisable to use this with a really big duffel to pack camp in with? I mean I know the frame itself would be just fine what I'm wondering is if using a big duffel fastened to the frame would work. Remember guys...I'm green at this.

Yes that will work and there's nothing wrong with that Cabela's frame. I would recommend a dry bag for your gear so everything is water proof. A couple ratchet straps to secure it can double for lots of things in camp.

Joe...You are becoming quite a well of solid info my man.

BTW...My buddy isn't very interested in the Wyoming package we discussed. Thanks for everything you've helped me with so far though.

Back in the day I bought a used aluminum external frame backpack. Used it for a couple of years. It worked great I just strapped my daypack on the top. We would pack in 3 miles set up camp and the frame was there if needed. As I upgraded my equipment I bought a Eberlestock Blue Widow. The old pack frame was put in the attic and collects dust now.

Good luck.
