Jetboil coffee press

Postby Freebird134 » 08 26, 2012 •  [Post 1]

I'm perfectly happy with instant coffee packets for our backpack hunts, but on my mule deer hunt with my dad he insists on regular coffee. I was in REI and found the Jetboil coffee press in the bargain section for $4.83 and snagged it. Regular price is $15. It basically turns your jetboil into a french press. I'm not a coffee snob at all (we drink Folgers mostly) but I do like the french press because it is easy, quick, and I don't have to buy filters (which I've ran out of on many occasions). Long story short: it worked great, in 5 minutes we were drinking coffee, and it will be good for hiking and camping with my wife, hunts with Pop, or even our backpack hunts (tho I'll stick with instant coffee this year).

Here's some pics of my trial run and description.

The whole thing fits in the bottom of my Jetboil Titanium. According to the instructions, different Jetboils will accommodate it different ways. In mine, it just fit in the very bottom perfectly

The coffee kit comes with a 2 piece rod that unscrews into 2 pieces, and the "press" part with the mesh screen. You assemble the 2 piece rod, push it through the original Jetboil lid (there is a hole there) and then screw on the press. Ready to go.

Here is the stove ready to go. I did make one mistake: I put the coffee in with the water before I boiled it. I think it will be better to boil the water, then add the coffee. But it worked. I just had a bunch of coffee grounds on the inside walls of the pot

Hey freebird,
I love the french press!!!
I have a jetboil also, and we are looking forward to using the press at our camp. We always had the coffee tea bags, and they work and taste ok,but some fresh ground high end coffee is sure going to taste fine in the middle of nowhere.

Here's a link straight to outdoordan's press. For anyone in the Madison area, REI still has one in the clearance section for $5 (slightly used).
