Both kinda, ii'll have a centeal stash of goods so I don't have to carry all my food mainly and not go back to the truck to resupply. I'll first pack in for two days and scout since I didn't getto do that, if all is good back to the teuck for 10 more days of supplies. Also doing this will allow me to take less weigh overall by splitting it up. I'll cache my gear (not bow) and head back for the remaining food. This central point will be a camp but if I find elk i'll always have 2 days of food and shelter on me so no reason to return every night.

Reason i'll do it this way is there is nothing worsw then packing in 12 days of gear and finding out your spot sucks just to pack it all out again. Also why I believe focused scouting is good, you don't want to fully commit to nothing.

Bivy style backcountry. No base camp for us. Minimalist all the way.

Base camp for us, usually have elk within a couple hundred yards from camp at times. Go to different areas each morning and then hunt

Backcountry hunt. For my area it's almost easier backpacking in. Too hard to go the elk everyday from base camp.

We will set up a base camp and the plan so far is to hunt every day and back to camp at night.I did tell my buddy this year that if we need to stay out we should. I actually want to do it 2-3 nights anyways because I never have and I think it would be cool.I want to experience that part of elk hunting. We will be using the ATVs and hiking in a ways from them. We can always tie extra stuff on that we might need and not have to go back to basecamp. We leave 2 weeks from today to head to colorado. We should get there on Sunday,do a lil scouting ( an area we hunt anyways ) and then get after it starting Mon AM.

Interesting you bring this up! I've been debating this with my friends; I drew out for a Limited Entry tag in Utah (my home state), we will have horses and we were either planning on making a base camp and riding in each morning, or sleeping Bivy style. We decided it would be a life time experience to sleep on top of the elk and move as needed. So..... not being a fan of Bivy's I just dropped the dough and bought the lightest legitimate 1 man tent I could find.

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1, weighs just over 1 lb! Bivy's can suck a fat one. :)

We sell the Big Agnes Fly Creek's as well as the other BA and Nemo Tents. I have a Fly Creek UL1 I would be willing to part with (it is in stock as a display) at 20% discount! I will pay shipping!

Message me for details.

Thanks for looking.
