What's the best size of pack for a DIY hunt

Like the title says, what's the best size of pack if I do a hike in DIY hunt with everything I'm going to need for 7-10 days? Is say a 4000cubic inch pack big enough?

No way without tying stuff all over outside. 10 mountain house is plenty bulky

If you are looking for a cheap meat hauler, I would recommend the Alps Commander Pack. The pack has little key chain rings that connect the pack to the frame that can be pretty loud. But otherwise I think the Alps Commander Pack can suite your needs.

very tight in the winter, when you have warm gear. i did a 10 day fishing trip and used a 5000 pack. i had no more room. a bow and hunting gear would have not fit. tip over an elk? i am calling in air support. game over. food is so bulky.

We did a 10 day backcountry DIY hunt the first two weeks of September. We used Tenzing TZ5000 and TZ6000 packs. Both packs were heavily loaded. Both still had room to expand the meat racks for extra room. We went out about 7 miles. Best advice is to have walking sticks. They gave you balance and support when the trails got questionable. Very helpful with a heavy load on your back.

Stone Glacier Sky 7400. It weighs a little over 4lbs with the load shelf, can compress down to 4500ci, it compresses down to nothing to be used as a day pack and you can toss your whole camp into it in no time. It was a lot of fun watching my buddy try to fit everything into his Eberlestock Transformer pack. It was a lot like Tetris.

you could use a 4000 cu in pack, but like pointy said, it will be tight. Use the most light weight gear you can afford and pack minimal. I think if its your first hunt like this, you wont be able to get away with it and would recommend shorter stays away from the road to figure out your gear and what you would need for extended stays.

My day pack is 2200 and is pretty full. For 7 days I would need at least 6000.

I packed for my 8 day trip this year with an Alps Commander frame and a whitetail daypack from Cabelas. I had the sleeping back on the load hauling shelf in a eVent stuff sack. I had my food in a game bag right overtop of the sleeping back. I laid my heavy jacket overtop of the entire frame. Clipped my camera tripod in the spot for a spotting scope. Everything else got put inside the daypack, which I clipped onto the middle of the frame. Bow got bungeed to the outside. Worked pretty nice for a basecamp setup. The 8 day pack weighed like 40 pounds; humped it up to the base camp location... set camp, transferred food from the game bag to the eVent sack and hung it in a tree. Then each day I hunted with just the daypack, which had a built in 2L water reservoir. It was nice because the daypack only weighed like 2lb, had over 2000 cu in of storage, was waterproof and quiet. I don't think I'll ever have the desire to upgrade to a more expensive pack.

used the EXO 3500.. ok for day hikes, but if you need to carry some stuff.. would suggest the EXO 5000.

Love my Kuiu Icon Pro 5200. Packs down small for day pack mode and hauls a ton of gear. Tons of interior pockets and organization. My buddy has an exo 5500 that is awesome also.

Kifaru EMRII works great as an all around pack. Collapses small and tight for day pack use, expands out to over 8000ci.

I'm also looking at their cargo panel setup. You can add a couple pockets for your day hunt gear, and strap in a dry bag to hold your camp. Get to camp, drop the dry bag, head out with day hunt gear only.
