fletching

hey guys, I am going to strip off the fletchings on my piledrivers and put my own on. any suggestions for the best result. I have the helix tower jig, 3 degree right helicals, 2 inch blazers. I do not often use wraps.. just clean the shaft, whats the benefit of a wrap?

wraps make the arrow easier to find..and as i understand it, they come off relatively easy so cleaning is easier..and when you put on new wraps, you have a brand spanking new surface to glue your new vanes.

Don't know much about the jig that you use but sounds ok with helical. I do the same helical but choose to glue to the shaft and apply the wraps just below the fletch, makes it easier to fix damaged fletch when not glued to the wrap. I went with a 4 fletch so arrows will nock either way without having to look at them. For me the wraps are solely used to make the arrow more visable if sticking out of the side of a beast or to more easily find an arrow on the ground after a pass through. Just some ideas.

I use the helix tower jig. Works awesome you just have to make sure the vanes are lined up. I didn't pay attention to it on the first arrow and one vane was a little lower then the other two. I used Goat tuff glue and haven't lost a vane yet.

I am using this bluglu and its been holding awesome, on bareshaft.. thanks for explaining the purpose of the wraps, I prefer to use bright orange blazers for that reason. I also have noticed the vanes can be misaligned, I always double check that they are all in the right place before I glue them on. I will be sticking with 3 vane, thats all the helix jig can handle and i think its really all I need as I am able to hold inside 6" at 60yards.
