Tough Broadheads!!!

Postby ElkNut1 » 08 14, 2012 •  [Post 1]

What heads have some used here that you'd consider "very tough" --- I've personally have used quite a few & have taken deer & elk with them! Out of all the heads used I'd have to say the Muzzy heads are extremely tough, not to say others aren't but I've put those heads through some very tough bone on elk kills & they've never failed. For a fixed bladed head they are as tough as they come! We'll see how those Viper Tricks fair this year!!! (grin)

Let's hear of your choices!

I used Rocky Mountain Broadheads for years and they preformed very well. Then the Muzzy came out and I switched to them, they are one tough broadhead and fly really well. My next choice would be the interlock. There are so many broadheads on the market today it is hard to pick one. But I'm just and old bowhunter that is set in his ways, so I stick with what works for me.

Slick Trick Mags for me. I like how thick the 4 blades are. Curious to hear your opinion of the ViperTrick Paul when you get around to putting it to use :D True there are a lot of great broadheads on the market and the debate could go on for ever on which one would win in a brawl.

I used Muzzys for years. I put them thru many elk and deer too.
I did my own product test and YES they are very tough.
I shot one into a concrete block once to see just would happen.
Of course it was destroyed, but not near as much as the opposing Broadhead was...

But most recently I found that they weren't as sharp out of the box as they used to be.
And they can be difficult to sharpen.

2 years ago I switched to SlickTricks and an not disappointed. They are very sharp out of the box
and the blades are easier to re-sharpen.

My slick tricks are one tough mother on my target block .... If I could ever stick them in a critter I could tell you if they are tough on something other than foam

I have shot Muzzy the past couple of years, but just picked up some Solid broadheads... I can't imagine a broadhead being much tougher than these... one very strong looking head!!

I shot Rocky Mountain Ultras for a lot of years. Never had a problem with them. Had switch because they would plane out with my new bow a few years ago. Tried Slick Tricks, no blood trail and bull lived a long time( at least 35 minutes with a center double lung hit). This year it's G5 stricker magnums. We'll see about them, but they fly great.

You are right on the muzzy's not being as sharp as they use to be. But I resharppen everyone of my broadheads right out of the boxs anyway. That way there is never a question about them being sharp.

My dad and I have always shot muzzys. This year I got some Solid Broadheads. They certainly feel tougher than muzzys, the blades are thicker, and less pieces overall. Unless you are using the phantoms.

Also take a look at VPA heads, they appear to be tougher than heck. Those are what I was going to buy before I got the Solids.

Guys thanks!! I'm loving these Viper Tricks, tough as all get out & the edge it has maintained is outstanding with over a 100 shots into a 3d target! You can still shave with it!!!

I always used muzzy's until recently. I started shooting slick tricks and have no problems at all. I was group shooting broadheads the other day and sliced one of the blades off of a muzzy with a trick. I was impressed to say the least. I still use muzzy's for my wife however. The only other broadhead I have used that was tough to damage was a silverflame.

I have used the Nitrons for quite a few yrs now and like them pretty well. Every deer i have shot hasn't went far from where it was shot.I found some on clearance and bought a few extra packages to have on hand, especially since they keep going up in price every year.
