Kisser Buttons

Have been out of Archery for quite a while but thinking of picking it up again.

On my old bow (Golden Eagle) I just had a kisser button, no peep. Got a peep eventually but was fairly accurate with just a kisser button.

The Other post with the twisting string got me to thinking that a kisser button would be a nice backup.

Curious how many still use a kisser button?

I have a kisser. Tried one year with out it and went right back to it. I just like the added anchor point I guess.

I like the kisser also. when the string twisted, the kisser was also out of wack...

I used one for 6-7 years with little issue out to 40yds or so, after that I had difficulty with tighter groups as the combo kisser button & sight just didn't dial in like a peep sight & sight on my bow. I can shoot fairly accurate with the peep over the kisser button out to 80 yds, I stayed with the peep ever since! It's not to tough to get the peep lined up on string & stay put reasonably well, it's worth the trouble.

That sucks. Was the string partially broken?

no kisser here, but I also know the guy that makes my strings so peep twist is not an issue. if you don't shoot a lot I would say keep the kisser as it is a comfort thing.

I use one. I was having consistency issues last year and went and took a shooting lesson. After third shot the instructor said you just anchored three different places. Went and put a kisser on , have noticed a big difference, esp at long ranges.

Yes, I still use a peep. The kisser just gives me another point of reference.

i never tried one. how do you set one? you settle in and have a friend mark the string? i dont get it.

i touch my nose to the string, and i am golden.

Set it the same way you do your peep. Close your eyes and come to full draw and have someone mark the string right at the corner of your mouth.

Like Jason I have installed one in similar fashion. I'll add that when I put it on the string I at first do not serve it in, I draw back a couple of times to fine tune its position. Once on the string you can generally move the kisser button with your lips/teeth a bit up or down until it feels perfect, then I serve it on to the string above & below. Make sure when adjusting it at full draw that you do not lean your head to far forward thinking it's OK, it's not, it can put you in a leaning towards the string angle & that's not good.

So "back in the day" before peeps really existed, when I started bowhunting when I was about 10 years old, by dad had by bow set up with a kisser and no peep. That was how I did it for years. It was only about 6 years ago I added a peep. So, now I have a peep and kisser. I have tried to shoot w/o a kisser and I cannot to it. What I like is I have essentially have 3 anchor points (kisser to corner of lip, peep and nose touching string. I know that this could potentially slow my string speed by having both on there but I like that set up and it works well for me. 7 inch groups at 70 and 80 yrds.

I use a peep and a cushioned nock as my kisser button. I've been shooting bow for 22 years now and I've only went a few months without a kisser of some kind. Do I need it... probably not, but its a comfort thing to me. I notice a lot of guys struggling with consistency. I give em a kisser button and it usually gets them in the ballpark.... However just because you are using a kisser button that doesn't mean you are being consistent. I have friends that open their mouth, act like they are talking out of the side of their mouth and even actually making a duck or kissing face! haha! Once I show them how I do it, its seems to help. When I shoot I go as stone faced as I can...(not talking that kind of stoned guys) What I mean is that I try keep my mouth as relaxed as possible without my face drooping. Basically pretending there is ICE in my veins! It seems to help when I'm shooting competition and then in the field at the moment of truth comes. My consistent practice with the stoned relaxed face keeps me in the zone and I usually have no problems with trigger panic or buck fever... well at least till after the shot!!! haha! Seeing guys make more faces than a clown at a circus just makes me cringe! Remember to keep that corner of your mouth consistent every time. Another thing I do is touch the string to the tip of my nose. This is just another contact point to insure consistency..... If you didn't get it... I'm a big believer in being consistent in my shooting! You should be too!
