Whaddya you cats use for communication when in the mountains? How do you use them (turn em on at the top of the hour to check in; leave em on; etc.). Brand, type, how used.

My cell phone, when hunting with a buddy we texted
we use to use moterola radios when deer hunting, but reach was limited( just like phones) in deep canyons

Last year we turned them on at 11, 12 and 1 if it worked. but we hunted in groups of 2. like them for safety and we had very little cell phone coverage. Also they work real well on the way out west, we have to trucks driving 21 hour. Station #1 code 0. many different brands Cobra, Midlands, Motorola and Black box I do know like most things you get what you pay for. My Black box I can hook a antenna up it adds a lot of range. Yote hunting on good days it add 5 miles, the person siting next to me might get a crackle.

We have the little 5 or 6 watt walkie talkies. We use them only when looking for a downed animal.
