What do you cats prefer for a lightweight pack saw?

Wyoming saw. A little bulky in the leather case, but a great saw.

Yes, the WY Saw in 14" is the cats meow at a hair over 1-lb in the newer cordura lightweight case. There's nothing that compares to it for cutting small trees, branches or limbs & then put on the bone blade & it devours any deer or elk skull plate to remove racks! It's the one all 5 of us carry in the crew!

Yep, WY saw can't be beat. It has blades for bone and wood. Put it together and take it apart a few X for practice.

I don't carry one, except for the little one on a leatherman. for cleaning elk it's easier for me to work around the ball joints in the hip and bone anything else out. If I'm fortunate enough to shoot a trophy I want a Euro mount anyways.

I don't always carry a saw, but if I did it would be a Wyoming Saw for sure.

I do own one but instead of packing it around all season I bring it in on the return trip with the big pack after I've gotten rid of everything else.

I usually prefer to quarter my elk and have in the past carried a hack saw, folding saw, small carpenter's saw, or the Wyo. saw. For butchering I prefer the Wyo. saw. Except for real small other jobs the Wyo. saw is the best option. Where you have some serious butchering to do the Wyo. saw is lighter, quicker and easier than the other options.

What are you guys sawing? I haven't had a problem using just a knife for quartering, etc.

For quartering I use a saw to cut off legs, cut across the spine and cut off the head. I will sometimes use the saw to start splitting the back bone. After I get a good start with the saw on splitting the back bone I go 95% of the way with a hatchet. I know I can butcher an elk with only a pocket knife that has a 2 1/2 inch blade, but better equipment just makes the job easier.

We cut off the lower legs (no need carry them to camp) and if it's a small raghorn that won't be mounted, the skull cap with antlers.

I'm with you. I don't want to carry the extra weight. I just cut the legs off at the ankle and I have the same load as everyone hacking of the lower leg. I also think that using just a knife helps to follow all the muscle so you don't ruin steaks.
