leave well enough alone? bow advice.

my bow is shooting lights out. i just shot a fieldtip into my target and then put a slicktrick on the next arrow. without thinking, i let it fly. zip!! right next to it.
all at 20 yards. i decided right there, i am going back to slicktricks. they are a wonderful broadhead. much quieter in flight than my montecs.

i cleanly cut a vane!! cool! damn! my bow is broadhead tuned.

i went a local bowshop to get some full length, 4 vane arrows made up from my turkey bullheads. i noted a chrono graph. he let me try it. 263 fps. kinda slow, no? IBO is 307-310.

he put my bow on a scale and got 67 lbs. figured i am about 5lbs light. i should leave it..right? plenty for killing everything on this continent.

my arrows i THINK are 420gr..i'll reweigh them tomorrow on a better scale.

sounds like you have a good bit time to just shoot and not worry about anything. get her all sighted in and prep for season. im still in the BH tuning phase myself. but I get four bows to play with yr.

personally I can set up my deer, sons, wifes bows and leave them once there tuned. if I get my elk bow tuned to fast theres going to be something I just HAVE to play with. if you can just leave it alone and shoot it. don't tinker like me. it gets maddening after a bit. I swear im already having dreams about setting up bows. I slept like crap last night.

Just think 20-30 years ago your specs would have been awesome. People killed elk every year with significantly less. Now we wonder if we need to do more. Will more speed improve our set up? I understand your dilemma, but lets face it, we have more of a head problem than a bow problem.

pretty much gospel. honestly, this was the first time i ever shot thru a chrono. ignorance was blissful..

420gr arrow at 263, nothing wrong with that. Should work well for anything you want to shoot.

Other option would be to get an arm yanker that would spit them out at 300. You would be spent and mad after about 7 shots but it would be fast!

260 fps and a 420 grain arrow is pretty much exactly what I will be shooting out of my 60# Elite, I will also be shooting Vipertricks this year, IMO you have a great set up

If your bh's are flying that well, you are in good shape, but you might want to tune them at 30 and 40 yards, or as far out as you feel comfortable shooting at an elk. A true flying arrow is way more deadly than a faster one that wobbles. Even if you crank it up another 5#'s, you would only get another 10 fps and may struggle to draw in awkward or tense situation, not worth it to me.

Spot on. Unless you are a 31" draw shooting max poundage or superlight arrows forget IBO. The kinetic energy you are getting out of your setup is more than sufficient for elk, moose and bear. I would rather have a super accurate easier holding 263 fps over a somewhat accurate hard to hold 290 fps. I think bow speeds are like elk scores. Usually lower than what people think they have.
